Administration is a mess
Program Coordinator, Admin Support (Current Employee) –  Eugene, ORSeptember 14, 2017
Management and classified (union) employees are pitted against each other. Management to classified employee is 1 to 3, very management heavy but no training or resources for management. Also, very little accountability. There are way too many Union Grievances and most are valid!

University job with a strong GTA union and benefits
Graduate Teaching Assistant (Former Employee) –  Eugene, ORSeptember 11, 2017
University of Oregon has one of the longest standing Graduate Teaching Assistant unions in the nation, and the union continues to defend the rights of Graduate Students working for the University. This makes it one of the better Universities for Graduate Students to work at, despite the fact that Universities around the nation are becoming worse and worse at providing a good workplace for graduate teaching assistants.

Student Stormwater Associate (Former Employee) –  Eugene, ORSeptember 5, 2017
Good medical benefits, but consistently behind private industry standard for wage levels. Significant amount of administrative waste and bureaucratic hoops to jump through. Generally people are friendly and promote a positive work culture.

Graduate Teaching Fellow (Current Employee) –  Eugene, ORSeptember 4, 2017
Some classes have no plan or direction for the GE, other classes are well oiled machines that run super smooth. the academic setting is overall stressful and no one has time for anything. If you want a family or have kids you will be treated as if you have a handicap

A disorganized, and bureaucratic place to be left alone to teach and research.
Graduate Teaching Fellow (Former Employee) –  Eugene, ORAugust 18, 2017
In teaching college composition, I went through extensive training in a very specific and outdated pedagogy, which didn't prove useful until I was about to start teaching the class. My first term, I felt I was hardly a week ahead of my own class.
The composition department sends lot son emails, only to be followed by a "disregard" email.
Very little help in planning the next step, post graduate study.
Pros
The insurance plan through the GE's union is phenomenal.
Cons
conflicting messages regarding how to balance teaching and studying

High Energy but sometimes stressful
Assistant Director, Employer Relations (Current Employee) –  Eugene, ORJuly 4, 2017
In need of better on-boarding. Amazing people work there, but often get burnt our quick because the good ones step up when needed and attend everything, often does not seem equal. Always events going on, so no need to feel that you have "nothing" to do, you ALWAYS have something to do, and go to, participate. Its fun but in the Fall is can get exhausting.
