The University of Virginia was founded in 1819 by Thomas Jefferson. The cornerstone of the University's first building was laid in 1817, with Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and James Monroe in attendance. The first class entered the university in 1825, and the first degree was conferred in 1828. Today the University of Virginia offers ten schools – more... to its students.
