small community, multiple hats
GA in Academic Support (Former Employee), Stockton, CAFebruary 1, 2015
Because this is a small university, it is easy to wear multiple hats within a position. It was emphasized to collaborate between departments and put students first.

Very enjoyable place to work and learn
PACIFIC AMBASSADOR (Former Employee), Stockton, CAJanuary 28, 2015
As a campus tour guide, I got to meet a lot of prospective students and learn more about the school in general. Being a working student, I think the university does a good job helping you balance your responsibilities in both fields.

Good campus culture but it could be better
staff member (Current Employee), Stockton, CASeptember 26, 2014
Pros: beautiful campus, mission-driven environment
Cons: lack of focus, confusion, uneven management
Pacific has a collegial and intimate culture where the staff are enthusiastic about serving students. We have a beautiful campus and many are actively involved in the Stockton community.

The administration is visionary and ambitious but they have set many priorities. Some of the priorities conflict, and staff often feel they do not understand what direction they are going or how they fit into the plan.

Some offices and managers function better than others. There is uneven celebration of successes or support of staff development.

Lifeguard (Former Employee), Stockton, CASeptember 2, 2014
Had a great time lifeguarding at UOP and working with the athletics department. A really great place to learn about nutrition and athletic needs of water polo players and swimmers.

Office Assistant (Former Employee), Stockton, CAAugust 25, 2014
University of the Pacific is a private university in Stockton, CA that is a huge part of the local community. There are many different jobs available as part of the workings of university campus. The sense of community exists also in each office on campus. The university, however, goes through frequent changes that may result in programs being cut down or eliminated.

Beautiful academic oasis in Stockton, CA
Executive Assistant III to the Dean (Former Employee), Stockton, CAJuly 3, 2014
Pros: privvy to concerts, athletic games, lectures on campus
Cons: parking! $200 each year for a parking permit….and nowhere to park.
I enjoyed my time at the University of the Pacific. As executive assistant to the head Dean in the largest school on campus, I was in charge of the Dean's office, handled a myriad of responsibilities, and was Director of Commencement for our school. I enjoyed interacting with the many different departments on campus as well as the services teams there.

The most challenging part of the job was the turnover in management, with the head dean (my boss), two associate deans, an interim dean, and an assistant dean all leaving in the course of 4 years.

The most enjoyable part of my job: EVERYTHING!

Event Security Officer (Former Employee), Stockton, CAJune 6, 2014
Pros: smart people everywhere, beautiful environment.
Cons: work-place politics.
A typical day involved receiving instructions for the security details and consequently following their prompt. Management was very poor. Most of my co-workers were delightful to be around, but a few made it miserable. The hardest part of my job was dealing with management and the superiors. They did not make me feel comfortable, equal, or important. The most enjoyable part of my job was that I was able to work on a beautiful University campus tingling with intelligent young minds.

Intelligent and fun people to work with. However, the amount of bureaucratic red tape really hampers anything from getting done.

Wonderful place to work, beautiful campus
Executive Assistant (Current Employee), Stockton, CAMarch 2, 2014
My experience at the university has been wonderful and I thoroughly enjoy being a part of the Pacific family. The campus is beautiful, the environment for working is fun and exciting, and we work hard to provide the best experience for students and one another as staff and faculty. The colleagues I come in contact with anywhere on campus are helpful, friendly and always stand ready to help each other. There is a family atmosphere that is priceless for a work environment.

I highly recommend both the education and the careers that can be found at University of the Pacific!
