I worked as a counselor through Upward Bound
Upward Bound Counselor (Former Employee), Marshall, MN – May 1, 2013
This experience gave me the opportunity to work with 9th-12th grade students who were less privedged. I was able to interact with them and also help them get through some tough times. The participants respected me and I am still in contact with many of them.

Tutoring High School students in all academic subjects
Tutor (Former Employee), Fresno, CA – March 17, 2013
Pros: flexible work schedule for college students, co-workers and management
Cons: not much room for advancement
Upward Bound taught me alot about how to work with high school students. While working here, I tutored high school students in all academic subjects. I had extensive training in courses related to youth and youth development and have been able to apply that knowledge outside of Upward Bound. My coworker and management were hard working and always willing – more... to work alongside peers if needed. The hardest part of the job was working with students who didn't care about their academics. The most enjoyable part of the job was working with students who applied themselves and got accepted into college. – less

This is a great company. I love any program that help our youth young reach and realize their true potential. I would recommend this program to any child who needs that extra help getting into college. I am so glad that I was apart of this organization.

nice job to be diverse and from teaching experience
Residential advisor (Former Employee), Chico, CA – February 5, 2013
Pros: free food, and board
Cons: unable to do very much on weekdays
You live on campus for 6 weeks with highschool students. You become their mentors and tutors and help them through the 6 week course, which prepares them for college experience. Co-workers super nice all being chico state students. The studnets and RA's range from different cultural bacjkrounds and each day you get 4 hours off to do whatever you would – more... like. You work 5 days a week 20 hours a week(including sleep). – less

helping get prepared for the future
Office Assistant (Former Employee), conway ar – January 16, 2013
Pros: prepared me for the future.
Cons: lived in dorms
Upward Bound was a program over the summer that helps kids in school prepare for the future and next school year. I learned things about each subject I was going to learn about in school before I was in school. We also had jobs at Upward Bound and mines was an Office Assistant I answered phones, filed papers, and ran errands. It was all positive energy – more... helping people and them helping you prepare to be better. The hardest part would have had to of been eating cafeteria food something I wasn't use to doing during the summer's. – less

Friendly place to work
Student Counselor (Former Employee), Terrell Tx – November 5, 2012
Pros: free dinner, a place to sleep, friendly atmosphere.
Cons: the heat, no breaks, and the feeling you never did anything right.
A typical day at work would be we would wake up around six in the morning to wake up the students and make sure they sign in for the day. I would lead the girls to the cafeteria so they could eat breakfast and get ready to go to their classes. After they finish their classes we do activities, so they can get exercise. When it reached nine I would escort – more... the girls back to the dorms for bed. I learned consistency from working there. – less

Easy to work your own schedule as you set up times with the students.

Fun working with people you already know
Math Tutor (Former Employee), Los Angeles, CA – October 15, 2012
Pros: i did not have to travel to go to work, it took place in my high school
Cons: it was only 3 hours a week.
It was nice being able to work with people i already knew, however it was hard for people to take me serious because they did know me. If i were to tell them to sit down or pay attention, they would not listen. It was my first job so it was a nice place to start.
