Workforce Specialist (Former Employee), Little Rock, ARAugust 8, 2014
Pros: helping people
Cons: promotion is limited
Interviewing clients assisting with job placement and life skills assessment. Logging information into system. I learned how to problem solve and teach client to use better decision making.
I also learned how to be a self starter and to depend on yourself to complete task. Training is very important to be able to function in this type of environment. – more... The most enjoyable part of employment with this Agency and any other Agency is when the probationer or the client comes and back and express that I was someone that help them through their barrier or after talking with me they feel a lot better and have the faith to keep pressing or trying. – less

Stable Anxiety
Employment Counselor (Current Employee), Salt Lake City, UtahMay 31, 2013
Pros: great benefits, high starting wage
Cons: you will never get a raise. no one values state employees.
Working for the State is a great thing, especially if you like a relatively stable work environment if you can pass probation without getting your program funding cut and then can excel while program and department management structure changes every few years.

The state struture is all about reacting to funding and trends, which breeds discontent and – more... mediocre effort. Ever get frustrated with State Workers? Probably, because after a while of putting in all your effort with no reward for the success you have, you kind of stop caring. – less
