Charge Nurse/Nurse Clinician III, Burn ICU (Former Employee), Galveston, TX – April 2, 2013
Reported to NOC as Burn ICU nurse and Charge nurse. Patient populations are from 18 -90 years old. Taking care of different care of burnsr drom first degree to second degee that has 1 % - 99 % burns. These burns caused by sunburn , chemicals, etc.
I learned to be a flexible anyrtime because burn unit is a highly specialized unit. I come anytime of the – more... day if any trauma related to burns such as housefires, airplane crash, industrial explosion, car explosion or vehicular accidents and etc.
The hardest part if 4 victims of housefire came and everybody needs emergent care and we have no staff but survived due to strong teamwork.
The most enjoyable is if the patient going home and survived with 2-7 grafting sugery after 99 % burn , I always have the feeling of satisfaction that they go home after extraordinary and drastic event. – less

A work experience to be desired
Licensed Vocational Nurse (Current Employee), Beaumont, TX – October 11, 2012
Pros: great medical, dental, benefits
Cons: no raise in 3-4 years, even with oustanding evaluations
I work on the night shift at a federal prison, I have learned that being a nurse at a prison you have to be made of sterner stuff and know how to deal with a lot of manipulative personalites from the inmates. As far a management, I would be able to effectively do my job if the management would stop changing their minds about techniques and procedures – more... from one day to the next. It is as if they can not all agree to disagree on any one particular subject. My co workers are a great group of ladies and gentlemen who try to work together when we are not confused about what our positions intel. The hardest part of my job is being by myself on a 1,600 inmate unit. I at times have to run in different directions and it would be nice if I could have some help, especially since there is supposed to be two nurses on my unit at night. The most enjoyable part of my job is that I do make an impact on the inmates who seek care from our medical unit. I often get requested by inmates for treatment because of my personality. They often say the other nurses are rude and don't care. But when I sit, talk, explain to the inmate what their treatment plans are and give them time to ask questions they seem to appreciate it much more than always being brushed of or told they will need to be rescheduled to discuss concerns with the provider. – less

Great People!
Coordinator II of Special Programs (Former Employee), Galveston – August 15, 2012
Pros: pros: benefits and the people
Cons: cons: standard operating procedures and management
-UTMB is a great company!

-Individual departments could use Standard Operating Procedures, especially for certain department positions where employees have been with UTMB for many years.

-Management should be trained using the standard operating procedures for their respected departments to ensure proper and adequate training and guidance for future – more... employees. – less
