Good company to work for
Route Driver (Former Employee) –  Paulsboro, NJJune 22, 2017
Good company to work for. You were given a company truck to bring home and given a yearly uniform allowance. You could start anytime before 7:00am and when you were finished your route you were done reguardless of the time. Christmas party, Christmas bonus and company picnic every year. Paid vacation.
Pros
You got a company vehicle to bring home, paid vacation, health ins
Cons
2 sick days a year, work every Saturday and no scheduled lunch break

Very demanding stressful, uncaring associates. Cutthroat. Didn't honor or take care of hard workers.
Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  Hanover, PAJune 12, 2017
Not a very good place to work. Treat employees unfairly and pay actually decreased or stayed the same in 18 yrs. Commission based on a geographic area which limited potential.
Pros
I had a manager that was caring.
Cons
No day off on holiday weeks. 12 hrs a day. Exhaustion. No family life. Commission only.

Only a summer job
Lineperson (Former Employee) –  Hanover, PAMay 30, 2017
I only ever worked at Utz as a summer job, and in that capacity it was an extremely enjoyable experience. The 10-hour shifts can be taxing at times and your mileage may vary.

Route Salesman (Former Employee) –  Frederick, MDMay 8, 2017
Very early and difficult hours. They will soon be privatizing the routes and selling them to employees, so benefits may soon go away. Very high turn over.

Management is pretty good. They have fun but have unrealistic expectations when it comes to a lot of areas on the job. Unloading trucks by hand by yourself

Long Hours Low Pay
Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  VirginiaDecember 15, 2016
Start work at 4-4:30 am , drive 100- 200 daily, work 12-16 accounts, go to warehouse and pick and load product, check truck fluids and drive home 6-7 pm. Company didn't support area with enough volume of business to support the routes due to the wide area covered on each route. There is more people in management than on routes, and they all like to state they have been around for 20+ years and they can take care of any problems you have. They always say that someone else is over whatever question or problem you have and that you will need to contact them to get a solution to your problem. My co-workers see the same, and wonder how the company has survived as long as it has. The hardest part is working each day, wondering what phone call you are going to get about something that you should have been told about a month before, or walking in a store and they have reset you space and everything is in the back waiting to be picked up. The most enjoyment comes from working and meeting everyone at the stores each day.
Pros
Working alone
Cons
low pay, lack of controls in place, accountability

Look for employment elsewhere...employees are treated like workhorses and not people...employees are not informed or kept in the loop..we are the last to know anything....and they change management like you change your socks.

Worst place to work
Route Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Gibsonville, NCApril 7, 2016
Supervisor for 4 years, 9 routes, never one in red. New hires were useless, no experience and couldn't add 2 + 2. Upper management would never accept responsibility for anything going wrong. Always fell on supervisors and half of them were useless. All get dis was talk about people. Management had different levels of discipline. I saw supervisors get thrown out o stores and instead of losing their job, they would just send someone else in to deal with them. Pay for drivers( not salesperson) was terrible for what they worked. If you average hours worked by pay, you could flip burgers and have a better quality of life. If anyone reads this and doesn't turn a job down from them, I feel very sorry for them once they see their true colors.
Pros
Free chips
Cons
Too many to list

Do Not work for this company
Route Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  NCMarch 4, 2016
One of the worst job in route sales I ever had. All the care about is a person on the truck. Long hours for little pay. Commission based but you have to load your own truck at end of day which you don't get paid for.
District Managers more worried about reports say then there employees. Always hearing you are replaceable. If they don't like you they will replace you.
Is commission but commission is a joke.
Pros
can take work truck home and free chips

they don't care, long hours, little pay

National Accounts Field Director (Former Employee) –  Hanover, PASeptember 1, 2015
Many great memories. Long hours and hard work. Great product line. Over the past 5 years, many executives brought into company who have no idea how Utz got to be the great company that it is. Forgetting about personal relationships with customers and ignoring the needs of the DSD Salesforce. Some of these Upper Management Execs have already been left go. Still many remain.
Pros
Great Product Line, Many dedicated people in Field sales
Cons
Trying to become a National Supplier at all costs, Distributors, IOs

Worst job I've ever had...
route salesman (Former Employee) –  Depford, Marmora NJApril 17, 2015
first thing I was lied to about how much money i could make. One out of ten routes make decent money, the rest work 60 to 65 hours a week for about $350 after taxes.

Route supervisors are worthless middlemen who don't help you, they just tell you what needs to be done and then go for coffee.

Upper management is clueless until your on their bad list.

The only things that were positive for me were the other drivers and the warehouse guys.

I would not recommend this company to anyone who can count hours vs. money.
They say "well it's not an hourly job" but when you calculate the hours you've worked for the week and see your check be ready to be sad.

They give you your vacation check in the beginning of March and then expect you to be able to hold on to the week pay until you want to take your vacation. And when you do you don't get paid for the week your off. The supervisor that does cover your route when your off either does nothing and brags about how little they did, or plows your store so when you come back you can't make money till you work thru what they've put in.

The sales meetings are pointless.

I liked it for about a month and then realized its pretty much a pyramid scheme.
Pros
the other drivers, warehouse guys, free chips.
Cons
everything else under the sun.

don't work here
rsr (Former Employee) –  Lebanon, paFebruary 25, 2015
Worst place I have ever worked. You will be told a bunch of lies about you will only be in training (jumper) for a short period of time. And that you will be getting a route that pays you 800+ a week. I was told those same lies. I got screwed over twice for routes I was told I was going to get and never did. In the end I got assigned a route that was no better than jumper pay which is 10/hr and and no more than 45/hrs a week. This job is good if you have no debt, live by yourself, or live at home.

Poor RSM who "brown-nosed" his way to position
Sales Representative (Former Employee) –  VaFebruary 12, 2015
Days were typical in this field of work. Finally got fed up with all the hypocrisy that DMs, RSM & upper management were about. Salesmen were ALWAYS at fault. RSM is a habitual liar. No one in management would take responsibility for their OWN actions. Blame was laid entirely on the route salesmen. All the salesmen were great to work with. Different regions may be better than others.
Pros
Working on your own

Poor management level personnel
