Staff could be rude. There were staff that should not have been working in particular positions in the agency. Many things were not updated in the group homes.

great place to work
Direct Care Supervisor (Former Employee), troy, nyJuly 29, 2014
Vanderheyden hall was a great place to work and opened my eyes to the work in which we live in. The hours and job are very demanding and was difficult to have a personal life. Overall, however, the job is great for someone who is right out of college looking to gain some assistance in getting a masters degree.

fun place to work at
Direct Care Worker (Former Employee), Wynantskill, NYAugust 11, 2013
Pros: helping young kids get through there problems
Cons: long shifts when the kids are miss behaving
i would pick the kids up from school and walk them up to the units. We would start chores so that they could have there free time after dinner. Management was very helpful with the kids. Hardest part was restraing the kids. Most enjoyable was going to the movies or playing basketball with them.

Need work very un-organized not very stable...
Internship (Former Employee), Wynantskill, NYMarch 24, 2013
Pros: good to work with youth
Cons: not good to be bounced around and managers don't pay attention...
If you enjoy working with youth and getting to know the youths it is hard to do here. They bounce you around way too much from one residence to the other. I was an intern that was not supposed to be alone with any of the youth but nobody followed them rules and was in some hairy situations.
