Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Byhalia, MSApril 17, 2014
Pros: travelled to other stores
Cons: very low pay
I had fun working there but it isn't a place to try to start a career. I would say if you just need some cash it's ok.

Assistant Manager (Former Employee), Forestdale, ALJanuary 10, 2014
Pros: good enviroment positive helpfull people
Cons: short breaks
I began employment at maxway as a stocker under Will Durden, Tamika Tall and Denise guest. At other jobs bosses taught me my job title and that's all, but there they were open to teach me everything I need to know to survive in that business. I was trained on the register and then paperwork, and we all know the more you positions you can work the more – more... hours you can get. before I knew it I was offered an management position. – less

Great Co-workers and Company to be a part of.
Distributor (Former Employee), Henderson, NCDecember 9, 2013
Pros: great co-workers, understandable supervisors
Cons: health care benefits
Every morning that I came in I had a folder with what to do today. I would organize my priorities to most important to less important which included calling Vendors or Stores to working on excel spreadsheets and certain projects that needed to be completed.
Being an Associate Buyer I learned how to communicate with people.
Actually getting in front – more... of Store Managers and talking about the product that I was purchasing at the time and how to display it correctly.
I enjoyed working with everyone that I came in contact with at Variety Wholesalers. Warehouse employees, store employees, supervisors, and everyday customers.
The hardest part of my job was being able to get in front of a group of people and talking. I overcame that fear, the more I did it the better I liked being a part of a large company.
I enjoyed the fast pace and the many different situations that I dealt with everyday. At the end of the day I felt a great accomplishment of being an asset to the company. – less

Store Manager/Asst (Former Employee), Henderson, NCOctober 22, 2013
Company is ok, no benefits and pay is not competitive with other companies in the same retail sector. Company does recognize hard work as far as advancement.

District Manager Assistant (988) (Former Employee), Saint George, SCAugust 17, 2013
Pros: working with shipments
Cons: having to travel out of town
I loved doing what I did helping with setting up stores and dealing with other stores that needed help with their stock. I learned my way through the company starting out as a cashier and working my way to an 988 which is like a Distict Manager Assistant. I enjoyed working with my fellow co-workers and lending a hand when they needed my help. I would – more... say the hardest part of my job was getting a store ready for opening with so many deadlines that you had to meet. – less

The worst workplace ever!!!
Customer Service Cashier (Former Employee), Augusta, Georgia GHMay 13, 2013
Pros: easy application process
Cons: no benefits nor employee discounts
A typical day of work was coming into chaos. We never had enough cashiers to cover the front end. The intercom was always in use mainly calling other workers in the store to come assist upfront or for price checks. I learned that the company does not care about the workload they throw on you. The company is very impersonal only caring about the bottom – more... line. Management spent most of their time in the office or breakroom normally gossiping about coworkers and their disadvantages. The hardest part of the job was biting your tongue in situations where being cursed at or threatened by irrate customers to change prices. The other downside was coming in to work to call outs or people faking sick to go home. Our bathroom was always nasty and no one took the responsibility in cleaning it unless management told them so. The fact of everyone starting at minimum wage regardless of retail experience. Basically, no company structure in it. – less
