Dying Company
Contract Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  Plainview, NYApril 16, 2017
This is the epiphany of what a dying company looks like. It may have, at one point in time been a great place to work, but they're afraid to innovate, they push new talent to the back burner, and point fingers like its their job.

The semi-conductor industries not very stable. I was there almost 2 years, saved them alot of money on energy costs, and making their building equipment more efficient.

Great company
Final Test Technician (Former Employee) –  Kingston, NYNovember 30, 2016
Great company to work for, good pay and great hours. A growing company. Would be an even better company if they kept most of their business in the USA. They moved most of their business to china.
Pros
Great pay, great hours.
Cons
Most of the company moved to china

Final Test Technician (Former Employee) –  Somerset, NJAugust 30, 2016
is a good, professional organization that treats their employees fairly.

As a large company there are many opportunities to further your career.

On the downside, the company is large and therefore it takes a long time to make decisions than in a small company.

Small team with open door policy
Director, Internal Audit Group (Current Employee) –  Plainview, NYJuly 6, 2016
Veeco is a relatively small public company with products which are very sophisticated catering to the semi-conductor and data storage industry.

I had the opportunity to bring the internal audit department in-house and build up processes and team to deliver the annual audit plan.

I performed risk assessments and presentations for the audit committee. Access to senior management and key stakeholders was easy and we got the opportunity to present at all senior levels including CFO, CEO and audit committee.

Big workload, but good compensation
Senior Accountant & Analyst (Current Employee) –  Horsham, PAFebruary 9, 2016
The Finance department takes on a significant number of duties. The company does compensate well.

Typical workday is significantly busy from the beginning to end. I am the key contact for Corporate as well as for all of the departments within the business unit. I've been exposed to many things working at Veeco. M&A, Revenue recognition, cost accounting, audits, forecasting/budgeting, etc. Management is typically well qualified and fair.
Pros
Good Manamgent
Cons
Big workloads

Sr. Global Supplier Quality Manager (Current Employee) –  Somerset, NJJanuary 5, 2016
The typical day is to develop strategies to mitigate risk for business. I learned new technology, established supplier quality management system from scratch. Hard part of this job was to execute new system in new environment. Enjoy the challenges and drive solutions for efficiency and meet market need in fast pace. Veeco has different business model and quality management system than my past experience in medical device and Automotive industry. I am responsible for driving improvement and developing new Suppliers in Global Market.

Hard work but good experience
Staff Application Engineer (Current Employee) –  Fort Collins, COJanuary 24, 2015
Veeco has relocated from the Fort Collins, CO location where I have experience so this may or may not apply to other locations. The work done at Veeco is interesting and the systems built are cutting edge and well engineered. I would think about taking a position with Veeco as similar to working for a defense contractor. You get to work on interesting projects but are subject to the business cycles that are largely out of your control. As a motivated employee, I found very long hours to be fairly normal and necessary to get the results that customers required. Met some really great people working here.
Pros
Interesting work
Cons
Subject to large business cycle variations

Not a good place to grow
Manager (Current Employee) –  New jerseyJanuary 19, 2015
The company culture is based on pushing unrealistic expectations. Management is not grounded or committed to taking proper steps to ensure company growth.

Good people/bad vision and no opportunity for growth.

Culture of layoff and putting out fires.
Pros
Good pay
Cons
No growth and high turn over

Too many managers who have no clue of the technology
Engineer (Current Employee) –  SomersetNovember 29, 2014
It is a very good place to work for the technology and you can learn a lot from your colleagues.
Pros
Technology
Cons
Too many managers who make decisions with no clue of the technology, no internal promotions instead hire from outside who never worked on the technology, company with turnover of less than a Billion dollars a year but have so many managers, Sr VP, directors like a multi Billion dollar company

Veeco
Solar and OLED Source Product Marketing Manager (Former Employee) –  Saint Paul, MNNovember 24, 2014
Veeco tries to be a very efficient company. They utilize the best management practices and have extremely high expectations of their employees. At the same time, you never really feel completely safe in your job. Turn over is high, but typical for semiconductor capital equipment makers.

If you are looking for an intense job that will teach you a lot in a very short period of time this might be a great fit. If you are looking for job security then look elsewhere.
Pros
Free beverages
Cons
short career spans

Look elsewhere if you have a brain and are on the technical side. Manufacturing, Business and Sales people might find Veeco St. Paul a good solution.
Pros
Very interesting products and technology
Cons
Engineering management in St.Paul is not creative, innovative, etc. There will be no surprising upside going forward

Busy Office, did not like the controller at the time
Accounts Payable Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Plainview, NYJuly 3, 2014
Enjoyed the work. Did not like the manager or her attitude.
I have nothing else to say about this job. I thought with working over 10 hour days, and being in early every day, that taking a leave one day 15 minutes early because I was sharing a car and then getting reprimanded for it the next deay was absolutely ridiculous. As an exempt employee at the time, that should never have been an issue at all.

Great place to work with opportunities for growth
R&D Technician (Current Employee) –  Fort Collins, COMay 24, 2014
A typical day could include equipment maintenance, machining for design modification on new products, setting up equipment for experiments.

The most enjoyable part of the job is being to utilize a wide variety of skills depending on the day.

I've learned about grid design for Ion beam systems, refrigeration--I hook up Polycold cryochillers to the Spector HT systems.
