As part of Veolia Environnment's plan to shed more than $5 billion in assets by 2015, in 2012 the company sold its US solid waste operations Veolia ES Solid Waste (solid waste services, waste-to-energy plants) to Advanced Disposal Services, part of Highstar Capital, for $1.91 billion. The deal reduced Veolia's net debt by approximately $1.84 billion.
Veolia Environmental Services North America retained its other US units, Veolia ES Technical Solutions, Veolia Industrial Services, and Marine Services, as well as its Canadian solid waste unit.
