Principal Network Engineer - FIOS (Current Employee), Reston, VANovember 26, 2014
I have only worked at Verizon for under two years and I can say that the work may not be challenging at times. Most of the day I deal with navigating through process and finding the right cross-functional teams in order to manage capacity for video systems. Our team is responsible for managing capacity for FIOS.
The hardest part is the bureaucracy of – more... a large corporation. I enjoy working with planning and other organization to develop business requirements for future enhancements and systems.
The downside is perhaps not utilizing my engineering skills commensurate with my experience and expertise.
With my knowledge and professional advancement, I am seeking a management position either within my current company or externally. – less

you are just a number at a large company like Verizon. It is not a fun place to work and there are little to no incentives to advance.

Pros: good benefits, great place to learn
Cons: shrinking management work force is causing hostel work environment.
Complete Electronic Attendance/ Time cards, Conference calls, Team meetings, Develop Mops for test and turn-up, provide tech training (OJT), interface with support organizations, deal with trouble escalations and provide metrics.

The hardest part of the job was administrative paper work. (Attendance, Sick leave, Vacation, Union Grievance, tracking – more... tech training requirements, and metrics )

The most enjoyable part of the job was, Interacting with the techs, providing training, trouble shooting circuit issues and developing new methods and procedures to improve trouble resolutions. – less

Fiber Customer Support Analyst (Former Employee), Syracuse, NYFebruary 9, 2014
Pros: great benefits
Cons: mandantory overtime
This is a good company to work for. The hours can be difficult depending on type of job (rotating schedules, open 24/7, work nights/weekends/and holidays). The job requires joining the union. There is a contract in place that is very employee oriented. Paid vacations, some of the best health benefits for a call center, 401k and regular raises. The co-workers – more... are supportive, training is paid, and the union is there for you if you need them. The hardest part of this job is the customers, and when trained properly they are not that difficult to work with. The management leaves much to be desired. Often promoted from different departments and needing to be trained by the people they are meant to supervise, they can be little to no help. The attendance policy strict and uncompromising, making it hard for single parents or people with young children. But overall a great company to work for. – less

Pros: advancement opportunities
Cons: frequent relocation.
While working at Verizon I was empowered to grow the company, motivate my employees, complete ongoing training, and be part of a company that provides an outstanding service. A typical day would be to ensure customers expectations were meet or exceeded, employees were given all resources and training needed to perform their job. Manage workflow, budget, – more... and time management. I enjoyed being able to provide process improvements the best. – less

Sr .NET and DB Developer (Current Employee), Irving, TXNovember 25, 2013
Pros: team is very friendly, trusting leads
Cons: no benefits or facilities as i am a contractor
Work is very much technology oriented and I enjoy to work here because all tasks that are taken are the ones which is a great workout for brain.

Working on complex designs, procedures, and supporting front end implementation is usual routine.

I gained a lot of importance and grip over the project which makes me feel the active presence in every decision – more... taken. – less
