30 year old company acts like a 2 year old
Sr. Applications Deployment Engineer (Current Employee) –  Bothell, WAJune 26, 2015
The co-workers are great but the layoff, kill ratio, and just plain revolving door makes it hard to keep anything going. The financial restraints on the data center and development operations are so strict we cannot sustain a stable environment. Every two years we have such a turn over that corporate memory is now wiped clean. Management keeps making the same bad decisions over and over. We've gone thru three CEOs in the last 5 years. Its just not stable.
The best thing about the company is the checks don't bounce. The worst thing is the work/life balance and the pay scale.
Pros
Paychecks don't bounce
Cons
Employee overload, workload, and lack of resources or money spent to make the company all it could be.

My role involves being SEIT, who leverages experience and knowledge in testing methodology, automation and white box testing by stabilizing/maintaining the existing framework/test scripts and contributing to a vision of the future state of test automation. It also involves delivering reliable, secure and efficient automation using designs that are extensible and reusable

Amazing people, room for advancement, not the best direction
Professional Services, Resource Coordinator (Former Employee) –  Bothell, WAJanuary 13, 2015
AT&T can be a really fun place to work. It is easy, however, to get burnt out. The days can be long and crazy, and the management isn't always the best.

There are a lot of places to go in the company, but it can be very difficult to figure out what your options are, or what the best fit is for you.

Management most of the time is amazing, but as this company is trying to change and is focused on efficiency, management is often swapped out.

The toughest part of the job was working with a lack of moral. When things got really tough, there wasn't a lot of support for the teams.

I leaned a lot about training people and leading teams. I also learned a lot about leading meetings and developing content. There was a lot f opportunity to work on projects, and that made things feel new and fun.
Pros
the people, the room for advancement
Cons
management, moral, stress level

I enjoy working here
Senior Quality Assurance Technician (Former Employee) –  Woodland Hills, CAJuly 8, 2015
I have been with this company for eleven years. I have seen many changes throughout those period. The company had been sold to investor several times before it got bought out by the competition. Vertafore is the competition that bought out FSC Insurance Solutions. In any market, getting bought by competition doesn't look good for the future. At least that branch or division. Soon after, they cut a lot of work forces and consolidated the office location. I was one of the fortunate few who have stayed back to work with the company remotely. Three years later all the remote employees got axed as well.
Pros
I enjoy working in this line of work
Cons
The pay rate isn't as competitive to other market in similar business.

Growing Pains, But Generally On Course
Senior Technical Writer (Former Employee) –  East Lansing, MINovember 6, 2013
Company (1500 or so FTE) has grown a great deal through acquisitions over the past decade, and that has meant the expected management right-sizing and hiccups from culture dissimilarities. Is held by a private equity investment firm that will be itching for its payday before long. A great acquisition candidate itself, as it is among the top dogs in its niches (insurance agency management and producer compliance platforms, etc.). Currently extremely understaffed for its big-league revenue goals, but this will likely change once it is gobbled up by a bigger fish that is either in or has ties to the Fortune 500.

Great company, awesome culture
Lead Talent Acquisition Specialist-IT (Current Employee) –  Conyers, GANovember 18, 2014
Vertafore is a great company if you're looking for a mid-sized company who puts its employees first. Management team sets strategic direction for employees that are attainable. Company values hard-work, innovation.

I would recommend others to work here given the work-life balance, management, and opportunIties yet most are located in corporate site which is Seattle, WA.

a stopping point
system admin (Current Employee) –  bothell, waSeptember 25, 2013
Overloaded on higher management with no concern for the "little guy". Turnover is about as bad as a mcdonalds with no effort to retain or reward talent. Company has the feel that it has no direction, or every direction. Pay rates are 20% below market average in a culture where management will actually tell you "you are lucky you have a job". You can be laid off at any time as it occurs frequently. This is where hope goes to die.
Pros
some departments enjoy flexible scheduling.
Cons
everything else

Not as advertised
Product Support Analyst (Former Employee) –  East Lansing, MIJanuary 6, 2014
This company is not what they advertise. They will tell you the job is about the customers, which is true, but they will also tell you this is not a call center. This could not be less true. You will be expected to be on the phone all day. This is fine if you are expecting a call center, but when they advertise that this is not their focus it is deceiving. There is little room for improvement, you will work short handed frequently, and you will get the short straw as the new employee. Think you're part of a team? You're part of a group of cutthroat individuals that work in the same proximity, all out for themselves with very little management. Managers are afraid to get their hands dirty, which means employees are on their own. You don't need a babysitter, but having someone sit back and quietly observe without intervention takes it's toll.
Pros
independent work environment
Cons
callcenter mentality, little guidance, cutthroat business

Be careful about going to work for this company
marketing dept (Former Employee)March 8, 2011
Do your due diligence before you go to work for this company. If you pay attention they have very few long term employees. The compensation and benefit package is excellent, but if you are looking for a job that you will be able to keep for a number of years this is not the one. Most of the people who work there wonder every day if it's their last day on the job. Their products are good, but overpriced. Their customers are becoming increasingly uneasy with their turnover of employees and the pricing of their products and it won't be long before some of their competitors catch up to them and leave them in the dust.
Cons
appreciation for a job well done is short lived

Has its drawbacks
Sagitta Support Technician II (Former Employee) –  Windsor, CTFebruary 14, 2015
Vertafore was a fun place to work when I started. I got to fly first-class to Seattle for on-the-job training (was there a week). The company creates and manages Agency Processing Systems for all size of independent insurance agencies. I handled back-end B.A. support for their flagship system, Sagitta, which is in use by enterprise- and mid-sized agencies.

My TM was a bit of a joke, acting like a 10-year old child, constantly pulling pranks and playing with all manner of toys around us, interrupting our workday all the time. My co-workers were cool, always on-hand for a quick question or to help with a difficult issue. This job was IT for business analyst work, and I loved the technicality of the position.

I was laid off 15 months into my time with the company, even though two other people had been there less time and should have been let go before I was.

Memories of this company are bittersweet due to being let go, but overall, if you can avoid layoffs, it is a great place to work. Just don't expect perks.
Pros
technically-challenging work
Cons
no perks for the work you do

Frequent shifts in direction and poor management make this place a career death trap.
Rather not say (Current Employee) –  Conyers, GAApril 2, 2013
Vertafore consists of a number of products designed to meet the needs of the insurance industry. Most of these products were acquired by buying up smaller close-knit companies that meet the needs various niche insurance markets.

Over the last few years the company has had considerable trouble identifying how to consolidate these assets. As a result, they have made a number of missteps. Each misstep or change in direction they make results in job losses at the various locations. Typically, these are good skilled people that are no longer needed in their current roles and are simply cast aside. This leaves the remaining employees feeling uneasy about their futures.

All decisions and processes are driven out of Bothell, WA. While working in Bothell is no guarantee of job security, it appears that working at any other location is more likely to result in your eventual elimination during the next priority shift.

Weak attempts have been made to manage employee satisfaction concerns, but there has been little cause to celebrate. Additionally, the review process is arbitrary and seems to be geared around avoiding things like merit increases or bonus payouts wherever possible. A glowing mid-year review where merit increases are not discussed is likely to be followed up with a less glowing or negative year-end review when it comes time to discuss money. Specifics are not given for low marks leaving the employee to remain confused about the process and how to improve.
Pros
depends on location, but from a corporate viewpoint the benefits are decent and the base salary is ok.
Cons
too many to list
