Working at Veterans Affairs

  • Sunshine in San Pablo, California 1 month ago
Hello Everyone, I recently received notification that I have been selected for a position. I submitted an application about 6 weeks and hadn't heard back from anyone until the other day when I was contacted and offered the position. I am excited but find it unusual that I would be offered a job without an interview. I tried to contact the person that would be my immediate supervisor to ask some specific questions about the position but wasn't able to get in touch with them before the weekend. Has anyone heard of anything like this before? Are there specific circumstances under which a selection might be made in this fashion? It just seems kind of peculiar to me but I'm certainly not complaining.

I recently applied for an IT job with Vertan Affairs in May. I keep checking the USAJOBS site to see if my application status has changed. It has not changed at all. Does anyone know if the Vetrans Affairs HR dept updates this status?

Do you work at Veterans Affairs? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in?

Hello, I recently interviewed for a Health Scientist position at the VA about 4 weeks ago. I did well on the first interview and was asked back for a 2nd to meet more people on staff. At least, I felt that it went very well. Afterwards, the interviewing staff warned me that HR took a long time to process things or provide an offer/notification of a decision. I was just hoping to get some feedback on how long it would usually take for HR to provide a decision. After my interviews, I did receive word from my references that they were called...so there's a little bit of hope that it is on a positive track. After applying to so many of these positions, I've become confused of the timeline since this has been the furthest I've gone. But as of now, I am trying to plan out my career plan or further schooling. It would help me greatly, if anyone could provide insight of the average time it takes for a decision from HR after being interviewed. Also, is it wise to call HR to ask for a decision? Would it be better to ask it in disguise...ie my phone service was turned off and I was curious to see if a call came through. Thanks for your help everyone.

Seeing the postings, there is 1 vacancy and the time for it is open for a year. Does it even pay to apply for anything like that or are they just trying to create a pool of candidates for the position and at the end, they may people calls?

It's always hard to know what to expect when going in for that interview -- and preparation can make all the difference. What is the interview process like at Veterans Affairs? Any advice on striking the right note?
