The Veterans Health Administration (VHA) provides medical, prescription, surgical, and rehabilitative services to US veterans. A unit of the Department of Veterans Affairs, the VHA serves more than 8 million active and former military service members, reservists, and National Guard members called to active duty. Veterans' family members also qualify for services. Operating under a medical care appropriation of more than $47 billion, the health system includes more than 150 medical centers and about 1,400 clinics staffed by more than 53,000 health care practitioners. The VHA also coordinates special programs that address general veteran health issues, such as rehabilitation.
VHA is opening 13 new clinics in nine states, including Arizona, Missouri, and Pennsylvania, from 2012 through 2015. – less
