Wonderful People
Software Test Engineer (Current Employee) –  Eden Prairie, MNDecember 7, 2017
Too many managers in California not enough staff, Constant hiring freezes, investing money into another division but taking it out of our budget. Management flies over but doesn't stop in the middle of the country.
Pros
Team building lunches
Cons
Too much lack of direction from too many managers

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  Eden Prairie, MNDecember 4, 2017
Work environment is an agile methodology approach with smaller teams. Provides interesting and challenging tasks, flexibility in the day-to-day schedule, and a culture that is engaging and collaborative. Most enjoyable part of the job is producing a worthwhile service to our customers with a respectful team.
Pros
flexible and challenging
Cons
potentially long hours, not much for advancement

Great Benefits and Opportunity Depending on Your Job
Operations Supervisor (Former Employee) –  Indianapolis, INNovember 30, 2017
Depending on the role/position you have the work/life balance can be non-existent. Management while empathetic does not have an idea of the complexity of the work and the amount of training necessary to get people to work efficiently. The benefits are great however the amount of work and pressure are very high.
Pros
free breakfast, great working enviroment, ergonomic desks and chairs, latest computers
Cons
Very long hours, management has no clear direction

Good People, bad Company
Lead Technical Support Representative (Former Employee) –  Eden Prairie, MNNovember 1, 2017
No advancement opportunity. Management has no idea what they are doing, they ruined a perfectly good product by outsourcing its manufacturing to Mexico. Company is also constantly "re-structuring" the business unit I was a part of so there is little to no job security.

Loved working with the people in my location though (Eden Prairie, MN)
Pros
Good people, lots of free lunches
Cons
no raises for over a year, tone deaf management

Good Company & People
Director, Wireless Sales (Current Employee) –  Dallas, TXNovember 1, 2017
Good company good people and good products. Unfortunately market is not growing. Strong market position with market leading products have enabled Viavi to remain market leader in a flat to declining market. More and more competitive pressure on margins, as competition cuts price to win and customer look to reduce Opex and Capex spend.
Pros
Great people and products
Cons
Very 30-60-90 focused

Data and File Administrator (Former Employee) –  Milpitas, CAOctober 16, 2017
Good place. People seemed happy. It seems stupid to have a 150 character minimum for a required review... It won't give me much more to say no matter how much you want it to.

Great people but slow to make progress
Director (Current Employee) –  Milpitas, CASeptember 29, 2017
Great company but they are slow to make lager impact decisions. Leaders need to understand Viavi isn't a semi conductor company. And Viavi needs to double down in areas and have company wide alignment.

Work, work, work. Needs to be more balanced. Did learn a lot while interning here though. Like how the CEO, CFO, and CIO all work in the same building.

Corporate Training Specialist (Former Employee) –  Santa Clara, CAAugust 24, 2017
I started working for a small company which was acquired by JDS shortly after I began working there. Once the dust had settle down, JDS announced that many employees would be laid off. Not a good experience. I did like my job as a trainer though.

Manufacturing Technician 2 (Former Employee) –  Santa Rosa, CAAugust 8, 2017
This company used to be a great place to work. Has become a very corporate entity and has little concern for employees well-being. Management has failed to garner respect and trust from employees, especially those that have been there for many years.

Sr. Reliability/Systems Test Engineer (Former Employee) –  Salem, VAJuly 31, 2017
Enjoyed my tenure at Viavi and would still be working there but unfortunately the company moved North whereas I wanted to live in the South. Had the opportunity to work on the majority of the products developed by the company and was deemed an expert at tasks assigned.
Pros
free coffee, donuts and team building activities
Cons
sometimes it's evident more personnel are required

Senior Software Engineer (Former Employee) –  Colorado Springs, COJuly 31, 2017
Very high pressure company. Tight deadlines. People are talented but due to the high pressure everyone is uptight. Layoffs are common. Would not recommend under current circumstances.

Innovative culture and products, motivated & hard-working workforce
Staffing Account Manager/Recruiter (Former Employee) –  Santa Rosa, CAJune 5, 2017
This is specifically for the OSP division in Santa Rosa that I supported; no experience with the division based in Germantown, MD.

At this campus the workforce is motivated and hard-working. Employee turnover is low, many employees have worked there for decades.

The engineering teams are innovative and productive; the management team is popular and effective. The division's products are unique and the division is profitable

Overall, a good place to work.

Pros
Great products

chaotic scrambling to get product to market
