A great environment and afun place to work at.
Direct care staff (Former Employee), Windsor,CT – May 16, 2013
A typical work day at vin fen is working with consumers with disabilities, taking them out in the community, teaching them vocational skills, job coaching and in a residential setting teaching consumers the basics of life to get around on their own. What I loved most about this job was seeing the smiles on consumers faces knowing you did a good deed and – more... a great job also building relationships along the way. – less

A job where you make the most out of very little resources to best serve individuals with developmental dissabilities.
Senior Job Coach (Current Employee), Brighton, MA – May 14, 2013
Pros: helping individuals achieve life goals
Cons: lack of funding.
A typical day includes teaching individuals with developmental disabilities different life skills to help them find a job in the community. This includes behavioral management and working with clinicians to help better the individuals progress towards becoming an independent member of the community. Creating and implementing different curriculums, and – more... serving as a liaison between staff and management. Hardest part of my job is making the most of the little resources the Vinfen Corporation provides. The program lacks the funds and appropriate amount of staff to best support the individuals. I search and apply for grants on my spare time and make donations myself to help better the lives of those I work with. The most enjoyable part of my job is every day, I care for those I serve and take great joy in watching them reach their goals. – less

current employee corporate office
Administration (Current Employee), Cambridge, MA – April 29, 2013
Pros: there are no pros in this company
Cons: poor management, benefits, lack of communication
This is a company that has a top down approach, has a severe lack of communication in the department and company, the decisions are based on the top managers and all lower managers are unable to make changes, nor do they make changes as they are incompetent.
Wished I had never accepted the position.

Unless you know someone, dont expect to move up.
Clinician (Current Employee), Boston – April 25, 2013
Pros: the clients are great and all the direct care workers are amazing!
Cons: management
The company does not care what you do for the clients, they just want billable notes and for employees to listen to people above even if it is not in the clients best interest. Its about who you know, not what you do. The management is also very disorganized and sometimes seems to appear they have no idea what they are doing.

Experience at Vinfen
Executive Assistant to Sr VP of Dev Services (Current Employee), Cambridge, MA – April 10, 2013
Pros: three weeks vacation and three personal days
Cons: lack of organization.
I work for a non profit with nice but very quiet and non-interactive people. My desire is to work with more socially outgoing people who are communicative like myself. The hardest part of my job is dealing with the lack or pockets of missed communication that is not conveyed to me, which is often. For this, I just have to just try to make intelligent – more... decisions and be able to guide people in the right direction. Follow up is key, in every employment scenario. – less

Allows me to make a difference in the lives of others
Residential Counselor II (Current Employee), Weymouth, MA – April 1, 2013
Pros: the appreciation recieved from persons served.
Cons: client-to-direct care staff ratio
I love the challenges and the rewards that come with working with and supporting our clients who are diagnosed with a mental illness and/or physical disability. I enjoy seeing the progress made by each of them toward obtaining their goals and eventually becoming fully independent individuals. A typical day involves checking in with each resident and – more... working with them on their chosen goals. I also schedule and transport them to and from their appointments, I assist them with housekeeping, food shopping, money management, medication management, finding employment, personal care and hygiene, I help them get more involved in the community and assist them with learning and implementing coping skills and symptom management skills. I think of my co-workers as friends and I believe we make a great team that allows us to provide quality care to the people we serve. – less

A Place of Constantly Learning New Strategies to Creative Work With the Client That We Serve
Program Staff (Current Employee), DORCHESTER, MA – February 6, 2013
Pros: close to home
Cons: not enough of a work load
A typical day at work for me consists of checking in with my clients who has staying home for the day. Communicating with them about their treatment plan and their goals, and to check in with them as to the progress they have made around these goals.
Throughout my day, I am in communication with my supervisor and the management team as we are constantly – more... strategizing about inprovements that we can make when it comes to client care and treatment.
My co-workers and I work diligently together as we strive to best serve our clients.
There isn't really a hard part of my job, but I will say that doing weekly grocery shopping can be a bit difficult because it takes about 3 hours to shop, which means 3 hours away from the program not getting any paperwork done.
The most enjoyable part of my joy is being caught up on all of my work; the best feeling ever. – less

Challenging and fun working environment.
Job Coach (Former Employee), Brighton, MA – November 2, 2012
This is a great place to work where no two days are exactly alike. High degree of energy is a constant and necessary component to the working day. Managers are great and available when needed. Co-workers are also positive and help to create a wonderful teamwork environment. Meeting the varied needs of individual consumers is not always possible and – more... may lead to a difficult day. However, there is usually a fresh start to the next day.The moments when all the best efforts of the team produce some minor yet positive change in a consumers life are quite enjoyable. – less

I work in this company once a week. It has been a great experience, I have learned new skills that allow me to improve my job with the clients and be more productive.
This is hard to make the decision to leave the agency because here I have a great co-workers, this is a good environment to work, but the office is far from my new home, so I have to make – more... the decision to leave work – less
