(VHBG) is a nonprofit organization that exists to support the needs of children who are challenged by serious social, emotional, behavioral and mental health issues. On our secluded 44 acre campus in western Henrico we provide group home care and alternative education services at our John G. Wood School. These two programs are supported by our Clinical and Community-Based Services division, providing personalized therapeutic interventions to our residents, students and families both on campus and in the community. We are differentiated by our use of the evidence-based Teaching Family Model of Care, supporting our youth in a healing community where they can experience life in a nurturing family environment, make important connections with supportive role models, and develop life skills that will give them confidence to believe in their future.
This position will be responsible for creating, implementing and managing the development and communications strategies for the Home. Reporting to the President, the Director of Development will oversee a comprehensive program of cultivation and stewardship, across a broad array of fundraising and relationship development tactics. This position will also plan and direct public relations and marketing programs to create and maintain a favorable public image for VHBG.
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is required, preferably from the field of nonprofit management or related fields such as communications, public relations, marketing or business. Other qualifications include: a minimum of five years successful experience in fundraising; thorough knowledge of area and national funding sources, as well as laws and regulations governing the conduct of fundraising by nonprofit organizations in Virginia; ability to develop accurate annual budgets and forecasts, and ability to manage budgets to achieve business objectives; demonstrated ability to cultivate and solicit major gifts; strong relationship building and interpersonal skills; experience with Raiser’s Edge a plus.
