Productive, Great environment, and Freedom to get work done.
Software Developer (Intern) (Current Employee), Rancho Cordova, CA – April 29, 2013
Pros: balanced work life, freedom to get work done, adaptable to change, good environment, and great people to work with
Great work place for an intern to learn new tools, technologies, and opportunities to work on challenging complex projects. I would like to stay here as a full-time employee if given the opportunity.

Fortune 500 company
Customer Service Representative (Former Employee), Rancho Cordova, CA – March 19, 2013
Pros: company cared about it's employee's.
Cons: no call center in phoenix.
I would start my morning at 530 am taking incoming calls from doctors and members giving authorizations and doctor referrals, I had a wonderful supervisor if he did not know the answer he would get the answer so we could do our job well. The hardest part of the job was not being able to accomodate a member and my most enjoyable part was enriching someone's – more... life with glasses or contacts. – less

Productive workplace and good comraderie among co-workers
Customer Care Representative (Former Employee), Rancho Cordova, CA – October 26, 2012
Pros: good initial training and assistance staff, great benefits for eyewear, once a month cake day, smart and energetic ceo, enjoyable co-workers
Cons: limited ability to advance, lack of available supervisors, inconsistencies amongst supervisors information, lack of job security
I learned a lot about the importance of vision care and what ailments can be detected by a doctor looking into the eyes. I enjoyed my relationship with customers, doctors and their staff and my co-workers. Great benefits for eyewear by the company.

Wandaknow – November 26, 2012

This position is always advertised (VSP Global-Accounts Payable/Receivable Specialist (PS)/Ranch... -) but they don't hire employees on a permanent basis. This is a gimmick to trick people into applying so a third party recruiting agency can use applicants for outsourcing leads. This organization uses this same A/P- A/R job advertisement only to lure people to apply then the human resource department sets up a telephone interview and lets a third party recruiter from a staffing agency listen in on the telephone interview,so the third party recruiter can steal leads from your past employment. But VSP doesn't hire anyone for this position ever!!! There is a high amount of employee turnover in this organization. Most people who work at VSP are not permanent employees they only use people through third party recruiting agencies on a routine basis to get the business transactions complete. I also know that the organization wage discriminates against women in the workplace. They expect women to have 4 year degrees but pay women less than 20k a year no matter what!!!

Wandaknow – November 28, 2012

A very gross unstructured management personal. An extreme micro management atmosphere all day long, lack of quality pay, they don’t give pay raises ever, staff members are treated poorly by management, human resources does a poor job in their role, way too much staff member turnover because of over use of third party recruiting through temp agencies and basically it is an employment environment most people would loath. A waste of time and effort to work and do business with this organization. Most of the positive posting comments are fake. Don’t believe that this organization is a good overall place for employment. This organization isn’t loyal to a majority of their staff members!!!

wendywu – February 4, 2013

Wandaknow is 100% incorrect. I work on the same floor as the ARS's and confirm they are real people and are hired to do a real job. Most of the employees are permanet, not temporary contract workers. As positions open up, the temp contract workers are often hired permanently. We do get raises every year, small though they may be.

Company lacks strategic direction
Vice President (Current Employee), Rancho Cordova, CA – May 17, 2012
Pros: competent co-workers
Cons: lack of strategic direction
VSP has tried to diversify its portfolio in recent years and as a result has lost direction and focus. The different lines of business' strategic direction is in conflict with each other consequently there is a lack of cohesion amongst the executve leaders resulting in business objectives not getting accomplished. Whole company seems to be floundering – more... as a result. – less

Bad place to work
Manager (Former Employee), Rancho Cordova, CA – May 15, 2012
Pros: cake day once a month
Cons: everything else.
Worked there for several years and resigned due to poor working conditions, no work/life balance (couldn't telecommute, no company issued blackberry - had to buy my own, long hours and required to call into meetings while I was out sick or on vacation). Pay was very low for the area. HR says the pay and benefits are great, but they really are not, HR – more... won't provide data to back up what they say. Mgmt poorly trained. No formal grievance system when you disagree with mgmt. HR dept not transparent or trustworthy, barrier to the company meeting it's objectives, HR was an obstacle not a partner to the divisions. Yes, they provided a workout area, lockers, basketball court and putting green - however if mgmt saw you there you were reprimanded for not working hard enough. – less
