We are currently seeking a Laboratory Manager to be responsible for planning, directing, and supervising the day to day laboratory operations. This position will also be responsible for conducting and interpreting complex microbiological tests and performing lab duties as needed.
Additionally, the ideal candidate:
Conducts purchasing, budget-tracking, and inventory management for the laboratory.
Manages activities of assigned staff. Oversees or conducts training and new employee orientation. Manages workload and scheduling. Responds to grievances of patients as well as employee-related issues. Handles performance management issues and participates in hiring.
Ensures maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment. Oversees quality assurance procedures. Ensures adequate safety and compliance with standard operating procedures. Requests new equipment as needed and develops new laboratory procedures.
Performs microbiological laboratory testing and interprets findings in assigned specialty areas.
Measures and monitors key performance areas of laboratory. Recommends ways to promote continuous quality improvement, customer service, and employee satisfaction.
This candidate will possess:
Knowledge of principles and techniques of clinical laboratory testing procedures/practices and of microbiology, including medical mycology; histology and grossing.
Knowledge of medical terminology, communicable diseases, and environmental health issues.
Knowledge of laboratory regulations, including quality control of media and reagents, laboratory safety, laboratory documentation requirements, sterilization requirements, and laboratory equipment.
Knowledge and skill of planning, budgeting, quality control, customer service, and supervision.
Skill in performing laboratory tests and using computers for database management, testing, and record-keeping functions.
Associates of Medical Lab Technician degree required. Bachelor's degree, Microbiology, Medical Technology, or Health Sciences preferred.
Minimum 5 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in laboratory, including two years supervisory experience. Mohs lab procedures strongly preferred. Experience in the process of grossing. Must possess the ability to communicate appropriately, and be able to collaborate effectively with the health care team.
