Representative (Former Employee), Dallas/Fort Worth –
Pros: making a difference in the lives of people.
Cons: extreme pressure.
Very well known, if not the best known hospice company in the US. The company makes what is a very difficult time for patient and family a little better, however, I felt there was extreme pressure on the employee/staff, with sometimes unreasonable requests. I think it very much depends upon your team Director.

Fulfilling place to work with strong, patient-centered values.
General Manager (Current Employee), Southfield, MI –
Each day we strive to fulfill our #1 value of Patients and Families Come First. I enjoy overseeing the entire hospice operation from the clinical team who cares for our patients, to our sales team who works hard to grow our referral base, to the office staff who supports our team in the field. Everyday is a new opportunity to provide loving care for – more...  a dying patient and their loved ones and a new challenge to dispel the myths of hospice in the community. I thrive on the challenge that this position offers in terms of balancing great patient care with meeting our labor goals and operating margin. Ultimately the key to being successful is hiring people with a hospice heart who truly care about the patients and then making patients and families our number one priority. – less

Chaplain - Home Hospice, Full Time (Former Employee), Fort Worth, TX –
Adequate vacation time is offered but expectations for on-call coverage is very demanding and can be stressful. Wonderful co-workers. Appreciated the autonomy of setting my own schedule.

Worst place to work for
Nurse (Former Employee), Dallas, TX –
Pros: nothing
Cons: everything (employees, management, salaries....)
You do not want to work for Vitas. They do not pay well (well below other companies) and abuse their employees. They expect you to work well past your regular hours almost everyday and trick you into seeing patients from other nurses. They don't compensate you for the overtime and when you get home well after 7pm, you still have to do the paperwork – more...  I don't mind doing my job but it was the way they were handling the employees. There is no problem helping out once in a while but with them, they are not appreciative. They take and take and are never grateful.Constantly harassing you by phone and disregarding the fact that you have a life outside of work. They are always short on nurses (duh....they are always hiring so that tells you something) and therefore run you crazy. Management is terrible.
I usually do not waste my time writing reviews but I wanted to make time this time around. Nobody can pay me to work for them again.
To those who do not listen, you will find out that everything I said and more is true. – less

LPN (Former Employee), LaSalle, IL –
Pros: decent compensation
Cons: extremely negative envirnoment to work in
There is some great staff, but the management couldn't relate to the clinical staff. There is a high turn over due to personality conflicts in the office.

Vitas has a great work environment.
Patient Care Secretary (Current Employee), san diego –
I love the people I work with! Whenever we are overwhelmed at work, it is still great to be there because of my coworkers. The job takes a little while until you feel comfortable because there is so much to learn, but it is def. one that you go home feeling like youve made a difference every day.

You DO NOT want to work for Vitas! Terrible Company. Why do you think they are always hiring? Their staff turn over is VERY high for a reason.

caring people
nurse lpn (Former Employee), Dayton Ohio –
Pros: family atmosphere
Cons: two units closed down and i was unemployed twice
I loved working for this company. The staff was great. The atmosphere was like family. I worked in the inpatient unit of 12 beds. It was one on one care. The pay was very good. Higher than most places that I worked for. The only thing was that the unit closed down and they no longer have an inpatient unit. May be there will be one in the future.

The staff was very welcoming and pleasant. My supervisors were the absolute best. I only wish the position was permanent, I would have loved to stay and grow with the company.
