The worst job ever.
Job Coach (Former Employee), Cleveland, OHFebruary 19, 2015
Cons: everything
This was the worst job that I ever had. It is a very unprofessional organization that only cares about the fee income they receive from the consumers. Job coaches are more like paid babysitters who watch consumers but are not able to train them in soft skills, or assist them in finding outside employment. Many of the job coaches sleep on the job because if you try to make a difference and help the consumers they may move on to outside employment.

Look somewhere esle first
Job Coach (Current Employee), Cleveland, OHDecember 29, 2014
Pros: great schedule
Cons: no benefits, terrible attitudes from mangement, no room for advancement
VGS started off as an okay place to work but they offer very little to their employees and also there is very little room for advancement. Although the scheduling is perfect you will most defiantly have to work a second job while at VGS. VGS offers no medical benefits to its employees not to mention you will feel very unappreciated because the CEO's drive several fancy cars while you may be struggling to make ends meet. At VGS it is always put out there that they are non profit but it seems the only people that profit are those higher up.

Job Match /Electronic Assembly Instructor (Former Employee), Cleveland, OHSeptember 22, 2014
Pros: working under city contracts and grants
Cons: rewarding, working with people with disabilities
Effectively instructed program participant on how to job search and interview, tracked and recorded statistical data as it related to program instructor , assisted job developers in following up with employers to schedule interviews and student evaluations. management one best supervisor I ever had.
I learned how to serve participants with disabilities and barriers to employment. The hardest part of the job was serving client that didn't want to be in program. Most enjoyable part was seeing participant succeed.

Pros: teaching
Cons: no change
I would get to work at 7:00am to work with special needs adolescents I would help them with there motor skills, listen to music take them on field trips, arts and crafts ,dancing reading and teaching the students a variety of things. My supervisor was the best she was a newly wed and was full of life that taught me how to multi task numerous things. The hardest part of the job was knowing that the students situation would not change but it was very rewarding to be a part of putting a smile on the students faces

Power sewer (Former Employee), Cleveland, OHFebruary 8, 2014
Pros: 30 minutes lunch, beautiful view in eating area
A typical day at VGS was to arrive by 8:30am, lunch at 11am and clock out at 2:30. It was kinda like school. The supervisors are strict on materials and very informative. If you don't understand anything they are very helpful. They may not be the friendliest but they will whip you into shape.

Job Coach (Former Employee), Cleveland, OHJune 24, 2013
Pros: employee appreciation days, extra hours
Cons: confrontation between consumers.
A typical day at Vocational Guidance can start off smooth and turn very difficult at times. When the consumers first come into work they are in great moods but as the shift progressed their moods can tend to change. Arguments can erupt between two consumers, when this occurred I and other coaches had to defuse the situation before getting worse. Once the situation was settled the shift ran smoothly again.
While working at Vocational Guidance Service I learned patience. Working with these individuals I learned that you must have patience, because if you don't a minor situation can turn to a major situation if you lose you composure.
The hardest part of this job was calming the consumer down after being upset. When a person with a mental disability is upset it is not always easy to calm them down, sometimes you have to persuade them to do something else to calm down.
The most enjoyable part of this job were the field trips on the morning shift with the adult day care.

Pros: kitchen to store food, friendly amtosphere
Cons: short breaks
At VGS all the counslers and instructors are experineced in their fieilds. They provide clerical , janitorial traning , mock interviews with real companies. A few other things that make VGS a safe place to work is they have a bell installed so they can hear people coming and going.
