I worked at Volvo Penta division in Chesapeake, VA as a Sr.Mechanical Engineer. During my 5 years FBI was investigating financial irregularities 3 times. Virginian Pilot even published about the Presidents assistant going to prison for 4 year. There is something that does not look right at Volvo Penta in Chesapeake, VA. The President is former used – more...  car salesman. The other managers are related with each other by previouse business of families. One engineer was reporting to his Dad and when hid Dad retired the engineer took his job. Over 100 engineers have been let go in 2002-2007. Swidish co-worker are very nice but they do not get involved into the local conflicts. The most enjoyable time of work is going to Sweeden for a business trip. – less

it was a fast past work place which what i loved about the job and the people i worked with . the managers wore the best and very friendly and familywise.

Very fast pace business environment. Production was the first and foremost concern of the company. Employees were represented by the UAW union and were represented fairly. I worked many hours overtime and many doubles in an effort to show my willingness and hard work. It was great while it lasted, but layoff was always eminent.

Working conditions were safe and all tasks could be performed easily and efficiently.
Management was proactive and supportive which made work life less stressful.
