What will shopping be like in 10 years?

Search processes billions of queries for millions of products on Walmart sites and apps worldwide. Whenever a user types in a query or browses through product categories on the web site, phone or the iPad, our service goes to work. We mine structured and semi-structured data from product catalogs, social web, transactions, query logs, etc. at an unprecedented scale. We work on big data problems, cutting edge relevance algorithms from information retrieval, machine learning, and ranking to deliver a high-availability, low-latency, intuitive user experience, which directly impacts business metrics.

We are a small agile team of highly motivated and smart people who are working on innovating to make the search/shopping experience on Wal-Mart’s online, mobile and physical stores more visual and intuitive. We are building out a great online product powered by unique big data mining technologies, which enable discovery using algorithms that rank results via social signals from around the web.

We are seeking a talented Web Developer with a proven track record of building high quality scalable web applications. You will be responsible for implementing pixel perfect designs that balance challenging customer needs with application performance.

-Work with great engineers and product visionaries to contribute to the vision and design of Wal-Mart’s Search Experience.
-Drive and own the implementation of the Search user experience and website.
-Be a product-oriented Web Developer creating and experimenting with new ideas that will engage and excite our customers.
-Work with web designers to incorporate and implement the front end of highly interactive websites using: HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, AJAX

-a BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.
-3+ years of experience in HTML5, JavaScript, CSS3, AJAX, Responsive Design, and general Web 2.0 techniques in the context of interactive Web Applications

-Proficiency with Node.js, web services, CSS3, AJAX, JavaScript, and HTML5
-Experience with XML and XSLT technology
-Experience building fast and efficient web applications
-Ability to work in a fast-paced and agile development environment
-Strong customer focus and obsession with quality
-Experience with the LAMP Stack or RoR
-Experience with Photoshop, Fireworks is a PLUS!
