Pros: great staff, challenge
Cons: compensation for amount of work put in
The sports season is essentially three months in length. During this time frame, pre/game/post -season training must be planned, organized and executed. Sessions must be directly correlated with the learning objectives and team goals to ensure a successful season.
Academically, responsibilities include keeping up to date with student-athletes grades by performing osccasional grade-checks to ensure eligibility for competition.
The compensation is a draw-back in that the stipend does not accurately reflect the amount of time being put in by the coaching staff. Perhaps the most time consuming portion of the job occurs outside the season itself during the recruiting phase. The Coaching staff spends countless hours on the road watching prospective student-athletes interested in the program and little to no reimbursement for travel.
Ultimately, the staff and department are great, and the love for the game is what keeps me involved.
