RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Charge Nurse, Washington, DC - November 11, 2014
Washington Center for Aging Services was rated 5 stars when I first started working there and I loved it. I have been there over a year and now I will give it a 1 star. Here are some present issues: Nurse retention is poor and never enough charge nurses to care for residents. The nurse to patient ratio is extremely high and most units there can have over 25 to 31residents but only 1 charge nurse for medication administration. When giving meds to residents, the charge nurse is constantly interrupted by management, phone calls, family members, etc. Just about every RN that they hire only work for a few weeks then quit! You can be scheduled to work one unit but then they pull you to work on a unit that you never worked on, and there is a lot of paperwork. Management do not respect the staff, very rude, and talk to staff like children. There are never enough supplies for the residents such as soap, lotion, and even linen such as washcloths and towels. Residents have claimed that they have used paper towels to wash there faces because there were no washcloths. Residents have been complaining about the food since the day I started. They serve the same foods over and over again with no varieties. The facility have huge cockroaches, mice, and rats and I have seen them in the solarium where they eat, their rooms, and even family members have complained that they see them running around in the chapel where church services are held. Sometimes we don't get paid on the scheduled pay day we're supposed to get paid on, but a few days later, but then they blame it on our banks to try to cover up their fallacies. Right after we were paid late, the following pay period, our direct deposits got cancelled. Now all staff get paper checks which is an inconvenience because you have to stand in line sometimes to pick up your check. Oh did I mention that they don't pay you all of your hours and they are constantly messing up your paycheck and leaving off hours worked, cheat you out of your sick time so they don't have to pay you. Just a couple of days ago, some staff had DR. appointments but when they arrived at appointment, they were told that their medical insurance had been cancelled because of non-payment from the facility which money is taking from the employees check bi-weekly to pay for health insurance. It seems that they are having some financial difficulties and is robbing Peter to pay Paul. There are other issues but I can go on and on.... Run from this place and don't waste your time!
