Teaching is one of the best jobs I have ever had.
Adjunct Professor, School of Social Work (Current Employee), Detroit, MIMarch 12, 2014
Pros: the students, continuing education opportunities, technical support and the holiday party, adjunct professors are made to feel and integral part of the team.
Cons: since i only teach one class, i sometimes find it hard to take advantage of all the opportunities the management provides.
While most of my classes are lecture format, small class size allows for active discussion and debate. My style of teaching is to tell stories, with both humor and pathos, to illustrate theoretical concepts. I am enthusiastic not only about what I teach, but who I teach. I love getting my students thinking and involved. As much fun as we have in the – more... classroom, I take my role as teacher and mentor very seriously. I feel that I am not only responsible to my students, but also to the thousands of clients they will someday serve. This both humbles and encourages me to do the best I can. – less

STUDENT ASSISTANT (Current Employee), BIOENGINEERING DEPARTMENTFebruary 19, 2014
Pros: learn a lot
Cons: less pay :(
Team work is the most important thing to learn in the laboratory, when you have some issues with the softwares you are working at, you have to approach the team and get your doubts cleared.
Secondly, you learn a lot by yourself, you do not have to be dependent on anyone.
Thirdly, you kind of build some self-confidence that helps you grow further in – more... the industry in the long run. – less

WSU offered many years of experience learning and fine tuning myself for future advancement opportunities.
Student Records Clerk (Former Employee), Detroit, MIFebruary 4, 2014
Cons: budget cuts in higher education. (ie: layoffs)
Typically a day at WSU consisted of multitasking and supervising a variety of tasks. Tasks ultimately included remaining compliant with federal government regulations for record keeping. I learned how to supervise and oversee work study students on task completion as it related to my overall responsibilities. I also learned how to utilize computer programs – more... to improve upon productivity. I got along well with all of my coworkers. I was told by many that my attitude lifted the spirits of those around me and when I left the office moral significantly decreased. The most enjoyable part of my job was feeling responsibility and sense of accomplishment when my job expectations were exceeded. – less

Enjoyable and fun work/research working with participants.
RESEARCH ASSISTANT (Current Employee), Detroit, MichiganJanuary 8, 2014
My work as a researcher entails making and setting up the research appointments, running the research study accurately and effectively, and engaging with the participants in a professional and comprehensive manner making sure they are clear on what is being done, what they need to do, and the purpose of the research.
I have learned and confirmed to – more... myself that working with people, for the good of people, is my true passion. I have also learned the processes of research, all that is required, all that needs to be considered, and all that needs to be taken care of before, during, and after research is conducted, and how to engage with participants.
I conduct the research study and appointments solo, with the guidance of the principle investigator of the research study (a professor at the university). Being the only person conducting the research is probably the hardest part of the job but it is not hard to handle; it is only hard in the sense that I am excited to conclude the study and put all of the data together but I can not get it done as quickly as I would like alone. The most enjoyable part of the job would really be almost everything: making appointments, working with the participants on their appointment day, making copies and taking care of the paper work that I am responsible for, keeping the professor updated on the status of the research... honestly, I just enjoy it all. – less
