Going with the flow, Weir SPM (formerly SPM Flow Control) manufactures flow control equipment and other heavy-duty products for the oil and gas industry. The company's products include made-to-order well service pumps, basic control valves, piping, high-pressure control components, and safety products. Weir SPM makes all its products at its 300,000-sq.-ft. manufacturing plant and corporate office in Fort Worth, Texas, and distributes finished products through stocking and service centers in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, North and South America, and the UK. The company is a unit of UK-based The Weir Group's oil and gas division.
Weir SPM's maintenance and service offerings include cement head testing, flow control and restraint system rental packages, flow control recertification and repair, and pump repair services.
In 2011 the company began a major capacity expansion of its manufacturing and service facility in Fort Worth, Texas. The $40 million investment is part of its parent's growth strategy to take advantage of increased drilling and hydraulic fracturing activities in oil and liquid-rich North American shale formations. The expansion includes a pump overhaul facility, several warehouses, an assembly and engineering office, a pipe shop, a swivel manufacturing plant, and a service center.
SPM Flow Control was acquired by The Weir Group in 2007 for $653 million. The acquisition increased Weir's presence in the rapidly growing upstream oil and gas market, especially in the high-demand well stimulation segment. – less
