Under the direct supervision of the Library Director, this position provides administrative and secretarial support for the Director and the Westbank Community Library District (WCLD), including data entry, filing, scheduling, supply ordering and maintenance, answering phones, coordinating mail, and working on special projects. The Administrative Assistant has significant responsibilities as the Records Retention Officer for the district, the Election Coordinator for the district, and the Deputy Secretary of the Board of Trustees. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize the workload.

This job operates in a professional office and public service environment. The Administrative Assistant works at a desk near a busy circulation and reference area in a well-loved public library, where he or she should be prepared to give out high fives, free stickers, and book opinions to youngsters and to chat with visitors and volunteers about library services, local news, recent photos of grandchildren or cats, and the occasional grumble. There are often interruptions and shifts in direction which can make it difficult to get things finished. We are noisier than the libraries of our childhoods particularly up at the front of the library.
