Insurance in general is tough, and W&S doesn't give the tools some of the other companies do. Without a book of business and proper training, it didn't take long to figure out this wasn't a good job.

Great, stable job

I love my job at Western and Southern. I work as an ARA and am lucky enough to have the best boss and mentor. The job can be challenging at times but if you have a great team, like I do, everything gets worked out as a team.

The pay is decent and the benefits are terrific. There isn't too much room for growth unless you are willing to relocate but the job is stable with pto, paid holidays, and paid sick time.

Some managers are slave drivers and some do not care to mentor and train their subordinates.
The work enviroment is not conducive to fast advancement and the compensation is not very rewarding for the amount of effort spent on the work.

Great company to work for if you are willing to work hard. One of the top commission schedules in the industry. The job as an agent is commission only, if you sit around waiting for the phone to ring you'll go broke, if you work hard you be very well compensated.

Insurance and financial sales is a tough market to be successful in unless you completely apply yourself. This is no different, but is better than most. A supportive management team and corporate structure, and a company that has a strong moral compass, W&S is a good place to work as long as you're willing to listen, implement, and do things that are not necessarily enjoyable (regularly make phone calls, prospecting businesses, constantly networking).

Strong pay and good reimbursement structure, flexible (but demanding) work schedule, supportive management, great company support
Cons
Tough industry, must put in a lot of work to be successful, unpleasant tasks are necessary (weekly phone calls, prospecting, etc)

Good company to work for. It is a flexible job. Your work is mostly in the field.

Benefits are good, they are one of the few companies that offer a pension plan.

Sometimes hard to meet their MPS, that is the required amount of earnings as per sales within a specific period.

I was promised I could make all this money and have a very flexible work schedule. Boy, that was wrong. Life insurance is very hard to sell now days. The older generation already has it and the younger generation can't afford it.

Upper management doesn't fit new culture

Great foundation, but the changing culture does not align with the current upper management. The old guard needs to be changed to reach the companies potential. The culture is moving toward 2020 and the upper management is stuck in 1980.

Co-workers have made this job enjoyable and exciting. We are given a lot of freedom so we are able to do what is best and most rewarding for us. Hardest part is being commission based right after graduation. Not originally from Kentucky I do not know enough people to really get started and make the money I want.
