About WHATABURGER
Fans of this chain know they can get quite a burger at the place with the orange and white roof. Whataburger Restaurants is a leading regional hamburger chain with nearly 700 outlets in Texas and about 10 other states in the South and Southwest. The restaurants are open 24 hours a day and serve burgers and fries along with chicken sandwiches, salads, – more... and a breakfast menu. About 600 of the restaurants are company-owned. Loyal Whataburger fans can also don the company's line of apparel sporting the chain's logo. The late Harmon Dobson founded the family-owned chain in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1950 with a single roadside burger stand.
Despite the fact that Whataburger has a much smaller presence than its national competitors, the chain continues to be a powerful player in its native Texas because of the intense loyalty of its customers. Whataburger moved its headquarters from Corpus Christi to San Antonio in 2009. It purchased a 140,000-sq.-ft. building near the San Antonio International Airport for its new home office.
The chain relies heavily on radio and television advertising to promote its brand. Whataburger has also been aggressively harnessing the power of social media to market its unique version of fast food to the masses.
Tom Dobson to stepped down as CEO on January 1, 2012. Dobson remained as chairman and was replaced as CEO by Preston Atkinson. – less
