Wishard Health Services is one of America’s five largest safety net health systems with nearly 1 million outpatient visits each year. Wishard’s mission is to Advocate, Care, Teach and Serve, with special emphasis on the vulnerable populations of Marion County, Indiana. It is one of the leading providers of health care in Central Indiana, – more... with physicians of the Indiana University School of Medicine providing a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services within our 316-bed hospital and inpatient facilities as well as through a network of community health centers located throughout Indianapolis.
Wishard is home to the first of two adult Level I trauma centers in Indiana and the region’s only adult burn center, the Richard M. Fairbanks Burn Center at Wishard. Accredited by The Joint Commission, Wishard has nationally recognized programs, including Midtown Community Mental Health, the Healthy Aging Brain Center and the IU National Center of Excellence in Women’s Health, and is the supervising hospital for Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services, the city’s primary EMS provider.
Wishard is in the process of building the Sidney & Lois Eskenazi Hospital and Eskenazi Health Campus to replace its current facility. The new hospital will be complete in December 2013 and will stand less than ¼ mile west of Wishard’s current home. The new system name, Eskenazi Health, will recognize the $40 million gift Sidney and Lois Eskenazi provided for the new hospital campus.
