Role model and a friend
Youth Leader, Colorado Springs, CO - November 17, 2013
A typical day at work would be going to church on week days to go over the plan for the following Sunday or for a big event that was going to happen in the next month or so. Then on Sundays i would get there an hour or two early to help set up for the youth group to come. Some Sundays I would help lead worship. When the middle school kids come, I make sure to greet them with a smile and saying hi, and then I seek out the girls from my group and mingle with them. Then after the sermon and worship we would split up into our groups and i would lead them in questions and going through what we just learned with them. I had to learn how to be a friend but still hold a leadership position with them. I worked with other youth leaders and the ages varied with parents down to college aged students and each held responsibilities different. I was often mistaken as one of the middle school people and would have to show authority, which was often the most difficult part of the job but it also allowed me to show that I am very capable of being a leader and that I can get the job done just as well as anyone else. The best part was connecting with the girls and being there to help them through any troubles they were going through at the time.
