Worthington Industries is looking for a Learning and Development Specialist in Columbus, OH. The Learning & Development Specialist is a key contributor to providing effective, value-added learning opportunities at both the departmental and enterprise-wide level and is responsible for participating in the creation and advancement of new strategies to develop the highest level of workforce performance and leadership capabilities in all Worthington Industries professionals.
Incumbent will work in a team environment to provide:
- Learning and development needs analysis with business unit leaders and HR leadership.
- Design, development, delivery, and evaluation of instructor-led, asynchronous, and blended learning solutions and associated job aids/collateral material with a high degree of focus on experiential learning.
- Monitoring and measurement of the ongoing effectiveness of learning programs.
- Identification and implementation of best practices and continuous improvement in Worthington’s learning and development approach, which includes “learn-do-teach”.
- Utilization of LMS system.
- Utilization of blogs, wikis, and social media to reinforce learning.
- Facilitation/delivery of instructor-led programs.
Incumbent will work with a wide variety of people at all levels within the organization and serve as a role model for effective interpersonal and interdepartmental relationships. Participates in educational activities that further his/her own professional growth and development.
Integrate efforts with and provide expert contribution to the Learning & Development team with:
-Constant and consistent advocating of Our Philosophy and modeling the behaviors by which it is demonstrated.
-Design, develop and evaluate instructional programs, materials, methods, employee support systems, teaching and assessment techniques, and the construction of evaluation methods to promote effective training and level four learning.
-Assist in the improvement of the instructional development process, setting standards for assisting the L&D team in the design curriculum and instruction, development of learning resources, and retooling of courses and course segments.
-Lead/facilitate instructor-led training modules, including various WII Academies.
-Update existing instructional programs, materials and e-learning courses according to department standards.
-Ensure training sessions are of highest quality (content, delivery, materials) and align with the Worthington’s current business strategies and initiatives.
-Consult with Business Unit Leaders and HR Leadership to understand needs and assess/evaluate current material for improvement.
-Partner with facility-level HR personnel to identify, prioritize and improve/make consistent learning topics, associated tools and best content/delivery practices across the enterprise.
-Partner in the development of key metrics to track and improve programs to better serve the business.
-Apply and modify various instructional design models and instructional system components to develop thorough instructional and learning systems and environments.
-Develop facilitator guides for courses and/or program components.
Fully utilize collaboration workspaces (SharePoint) in day-to-day operations and processes of the L&D function.
-Design and supervise production of learning resources in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, and animation technologies to support curriculum offerings.
-Leverage a variety of learning technologies to ensure effective and efficient program delivery including LMS, wikis, blogs, and social media.
-Create effective pre- and post-learning assessments for courses—aligned with training objectives—to encourage manager engagement, successfully measure the transfer of knowledge, and assure the driving of key business results.
-Support the process of developing and implementing continuous and sustained improvement processes.
-Effectively use consulting and influencing skills to develop valued relationships with key stakeholders and internal customers.
-Contribute to the ongoing expansion and development of processes and toolkits.
-Participate in group, local office, and national training, recruiting, and networking events.
-Miscellaneous projects and duties as required.
-Three to five years of developing and delivering instructor-led and e-learning/online education using a variety of development tools in a corporate setting.
-Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required. Information Design, Education, Instructional Design, Organizational Development or similar area of study preferred.
-Accomplished presentation and group facilitation skills.
-Strong knowledge of instructional design principles and practices to include: instructional systems design, curriculum design, performance improvement, performance support systems, adult learning theories, interactive technologies and eLearning design principles, distance learning, self-paced instruction, evaluation methodologies.
-Ability to identify problems and break down complex concepts and processes into component parts to be taught.
-Ability to influence, persuade and obtain buy-in from key stakeholders.
-Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment.
-Ability to work closely with a diverse group of subject matter experts and effectively communicate with team members re: project status, issues and/or concerns.

-Experience working with Content Creations Systems and Learning Management Systems (LMS) required.
-Experience with design and media development tools preferred, such as Adobe Acrobat, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop or Fireworks, Adobe Dreamweaver, Flash, Captivate.
-Familiarity with ERP systems (JDE, Oracle, etc.)
