This position is responsible for maintaining an environment of dozens of MySQL databases running in a Linux environment. The ideal candidate will have great analytical and interpersonal skills, and a strong sense of urgency. Must have in-depth experience in database administration involving management of many SQL Systems, including complex clusters, mirrors, replicated databases and partitions in a highly dynamic enterprise-level environment. Must have advanced knowledge of MySQL Utilities, creation and implementation of fully functional MySQL Server databases, ability to maintain multiple development, QA and production MySQL environments with strong experience in performance tuning on MySQL. Experience with data integrity, data retention, data analysis and data input/output processing and improving SQL code performance efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Preferred experience in building, configuring, maintaining the database in a SaaS or E-commerce business
  • Strong experience in design and implementation of platform architectures to support business requirements
  • Must have working knowledge of hardware including RAID, Shared Disk, SAN, multi-processor architecture, networking with Database and application connectivity
  • In-depth knowledge of horizontal database splitting, partitioning and data sharing is required
  • Experience with large data sets with at least with 500M rows and over 2TB in size
  • Lead ownership of the MySQL databases for production, staging and development
  • Monitor databases for problems and diagnose
  • Work with Engineering and IT to maintain a scalable, reliable, and robust database environment
  • Work with developers on performance tuning, query optimization, index tuning
  • Very strong experience in replication, clustering, tuning, sizing and proactive monitoring
  • Knowledge of creating, maintaining and supporting database schemas
  • Participate in the creation of SQL development standards while adhering to policies, methodologies, standards and guidelines
  • Must have experience in backup, recovery and upgrade procedure and process
  • Create and refine database complex queries, indexes, stored procedures and data mining
  • Experience with support and maintenance of MySQL, Oracle and MSSQL server
  • Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime
  • In-depth knowledge of MySQL InnoDB and MyISAM
  • Experience with large-scale, complex distributed Linux, Unix and Windows applications
  • Experience in performance tuning and database monitoring tools
  • Escalation point for 24/7 support for all DB related incidents; on-call pager duty is required for this role

Skills:

  • Senior DBA with minimum 8 years experience in database engineer, administration and support
  • Advanced knowledge of MySQL and Percona
  • Ability to develop complex databases to support enterprise level, high volume business applications
  • Ability to build, maintain and support complex SQL stored procedures in collaboration with other IT or Engineering staff
  • Ability to participate and/or lead the efforts to gather requirements analysis for new projects
  • Ability to act as an internal consultant, working closely with the user community and fellow Operations staff to successfully architect, design, model, implement, integrate, test and maintain databases and related applications
  • Ability to identify security requirements, including creation of new roles and/or addition to existing for a given line of business
  • Responsible for meeting all assigned/agreed on target dates for projects as well as individual tasks
  • Ability to handle numerous and conflicting priorities in a professional manner
