Productive, fun and rewarding!
ACTIVITY SPECIALIST (Former Employee), Brooklyn, NYJuly 22, 2014
Pros: flexible hours
Cons: was only part time
Working at the YMCA was a lot of fun for me, especially since that is where I spent most of my childhood playing basketball. It was like working for family.

Working with the young kids was a challenge sometimes I had to create activities for 10 to 15 kids. The challenge was dealing with the a mixed age group from 8 to 12 year old, but we made it fun.

I – more... love interacting with the members
, communicating with them was the best part. Some would ask about workouts, while others just wanted someone to talk too.

The YMCA is where I learned to establish patience in dealing with people. I love the staff there and it is still a place I go to play basketball. – less

Volunteer Coach (Former Employee), Phoenix, AZJuly 21, 2014
Pros: having the opportunity to play with and teach young children sports!
Cons: short breaks
Serving snacks during swim matches and teaching children the rules of and how to play sports was quite exciting. Coaching and instructing a parent-child participation class was my favorite part of volunteering with the YMCA. I enjoyed interacting with the parents about their children most. Speaking with me on a personal basis about their child's disability – more... or temper tantrums, I was able to satisify all team members and keep the games going. – less

Child Care Teacher (Current Employee), Sylmar, CAJuly 20, 2014
Pros: getting child care teaching experience
Cons: low hours, not being able to move upward.
A day at work, i would walk in, clock in, set up activities for the children, take attendance, put up walls and put up children's art work. I learned that being in a child care setting and being a teacher, you need to managed your time wisely and efficiently, always have a backup plan and always have a positive and welcoming personality. The hardest – more... part of my job was that i was being pressured to do the same work i would normally do for less hours. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to be part of a child's life, growth, and development. – less
