Young Harris College is a private, baccalaureate degree-granting college located in the beautiful mountains of north Georgia. Founded in 1886 and historically affiliated with The United Methodist Church, Young Harris College educates, inspires and empowers students through the highest quality liberal arts education. The College currently has more than 1,000 students across five divisions—Education, Fine Arts, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, and Social and Behavioral Sciences—and plans to increase enrollment to 1,200 over the next few years. The historic campus in Young Harris, Ga., is currently undergoing major campus improvements to accommodate the College’s growth, including recent completion of a 200-bed, LEED Silver-certified residence hall, Georgia’s first higher education facility north of Atlanta to achieve this certification, a 57,000-square-foot, LEED-certified recreation center, the second higher educational recreation facility in Georgia to achieve this certification, and a 248-bed, apartment-style residential village. Young Harris College invites applications for a full-time Assistant Director of Communications & Marketing, to begin immediately. The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in technical communication, public relations, journalism/communications, marketing or a related field. A minimum of two years experience in higher education is preferred.
Under the direction of the Director of Communications & Marketing, the Assistant Director supports the goals of the Office of Communications & Marketing and the Office of Advancement through a variety of communication tools and initiatives. Increasing awareness of and providing information on the College through both online and traditional media communication initiatives are the primary objectives of this position.
The Assistant Director will develop and maintain the College’s overall web presence, including social media; create and manage online/e-mail newsletters and publications; manage print newsletters and publications; develop relationships with media and key influencers, write and distribute press releases, pitch stories and faculty experts to appropriate media, handle media inquiries, and lead other media relations initiatives; and assist with other communication efforts targeted to build brand recognition.
Experience must demonstrate initiative and ability to work collaboratively and effectively across organizational lines. The successful candidate must be able to handle multiple priorities and deadlines. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, and Internet use is required. Flexibility with PC and Mac platforms and experience with Adobe Creative Suite or other design software is beneficial. A working knowledge of standard camera equipment and video editing software is desired.
