Deluxe Packages was my first accounting job, and I owe a great deal to my work ethic and professionalism to their team. I have felt very fortunate to work with the individuals I have, and I hope to carry what each of them have taught me with me throughout my career.
My work day usually goes something like this: I review my emails first thing, print out any invoices that vendors have sent to me. Then I do the daily billing, which could be anywhere from 10-80 invoices. I then work on the payables, matching them to purchase orders and receivers, and get them to the proper managers to sign off to pay. Then I will do the daily deposit after the mail has been delivered. That could be up to 15 checks. I also process any ACH deposits as well. I then have to key them into our ERP system (Open Accounts) so they are recorded. Then I record the dollar amounts on our XLS for our cash flow processes. I could then work on keying in any payables that have been through our approved to pay process. On a daily basis, that could take anywhere from one to three hours depending on the volume of paperwork. I have recently been put in full charge of Payroll. We get paid biweekly and I have to make sure that each employee (approx. 95 employees) have their hours approved by their managers to be able to process payroll. After I have finished my part, I send the information to our central company who takes care of it from there.
I would say the hardest part of my job would be depending on others to get the work I need to me in a timely manner. Most of my work is time sensitive and having to wait for others can be stressful. The most enjoyable part of my job is the knowledge I have gained and knowing that I am a valuable employee. That when I leave the company, I will be missed.
