About Yuma Regional Medical Center

Yuma Regional Medical Center (YRMC) is an acute care hospital that provides medical services for Yuma, Arizona, and its surrounding communities. The hospital, which has about 370 beds, offers a cardiac catheterization lab, children's health services, outpatient and inpatient surgical services, a sleep disorder diagnostic lab, a cancer treatment center, – more... and a variety of other medical services. YRMC also offers home health care, school health care, medical equipment rentals (through First Health Medical Supply), and cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation services off-site.

YRMC is a not-for-profit corporation governed by a 12-member volunteer board. The hospital is funded by the Foundation of Yuma Regional Medical Center, which raises money through various means including donations, bequests, and special events.

Being a somewhat regional hospital, YRMC works hard to recruit physicians who might rather practice are larger teaching hospitals with more advanced technological equipment and complex medical cases. YRMC especially has a hard time recruiting specialists to the region in areas such as cardiac surgery, endocrinology, pathology, and pediatrics, among others. In order to lure in such specialists, the hospital offers extended medical education, career weekends, and a number of specialized centers in which physicians can perform procedures solely in their specialty. For example, some centers include a neo-natal ICU and a pediatric sub-specialty unit.

YRMC also offers a free program called Silver Care in which patients who are 55 and older are encouraged to live active and healthy lives by being offered a number of benefits such as discounts at local stores, specially reduced rates on selected lab tests, including cholesterol, and blood glucose screenings. Additionally Silver Care members are eligible for free membership in the Fit for Life cardiac wellness program to monitor their cardiac health. – less
