Computer Programmer/Analyst (Former Employee) –  Grand Rapids, MISeptember 15, 2014
It was a great opportunity for me to learn about programming on large mainframe computers. I enjoyed being on the team to download data from laptops to the mainframe computer.

Once a great company to work for...
Senior Programmer/Analyst (Former Employee) –  Grand Rapids, MIAugust 13, 2014
Zondervan has been a wonderful company for over 75 years. They have been a staple in the Grand Rapids area. However, due to a recent merger with Thomas Nelson, the company has gone through many changes; mostly for the worse. The culture has dramatically changed and the feeling amongst many of the employees, along with actions taken by HarperCollins (parent company), is that all of the Zondervan employees will be replaced by Thomas Nelson employees and those jobs will all be in Nashville.

In less than 5 years, the "Grand Rapids presence" of Zondervan will most likely be a sign on a small building with a couple employees and/or a Grand Rapids phone number.

Very sad to see the demise of this once grand company.
Pros
great benefits due to parent company (harper collins)
Cons
may not be in grand rapids in the near future.

A great atmosphere to work in
Editorial Assistant (Former Employee) –  Grand Rapids, MIApril 11, 2012
The people here are very friendly and fun to work with. They understand the importance of family and are very flexible with work schedules. Fridays are very casual and laid back. The cafeteria serves popcorn using their own popcorn machine. It's self-serve, so you can fill up a bag with as much popcorn as you want and take it back to your office to munch on while you work. Also, some people like to bring in snacks for their department on Friday mornings.
