I had 5 interviews with the company over the last month. After the ride along was complete they called me into the main office, where they extended an offer to me. The VP of Sales requested I call the next day with my answer. I called the next day and got voice mail. I left a message. I also contacted the recruiter to let her know I had followed up. She sent me the benefits information for me the review also. After a week I had not heard back. I called and emailed the recruiter and the VP that offered me the position. After a week of no answers the recruiter answered the phone and said they got the impression I was not interested and gave the position to someone else. I have no idea why they would have that impression when no one called? If they decided to go with another candidate, I would have completely respected that, however to not call or notify me in any way is unacceptable. I work for a fortune 500 company and thank god I did not leave to go to an organization that operates in this way. I have never been exposed to this level of unprofessionalism. Below is the email I sent to them in response to the situation, in which I have received no reply:

xxx,

I spoke with xxx this morning regarding the position I was offered at your company. She advised me that this was filled by another candidate. I am confused as to why no one had informed me that my offer was revoked? I would have completely understood if you had felt you made a bad decision. I would have respected your opinion, and I was very thankful to have been given the opportunity to even be considered. However, to offer me a position and then never return my phone calls or emails when I am attempting to give you an answer is completely inappropriate. If an offer was not made I would not expect any further communication, however this was not the case.

You are representing your company when you are dealing with the public, whether it be in sales, or in hiring. When you treat people in this way you have done with me, you have tarnished the reputation of your company. I will be writing a letter to your human resources department and you corporate head quarters. I would never recommend your company to a potential customer or someone pursuing a career after going through this. I would expect more from someone in your position. A phone call or email would have sufficed.

Sincerely,

xxx

Siobhan,

Not sure what value I can help add here, as it seems you had an unfortunate series of events unfold.

not being part of that situation, your description of events does not seem at all the norm with our company...or really any other company.

and judging off of your comments, sounds like there was a definite disconnect somewhere.

I am sure if you read this forum from top to bottom, you will see there are alot of positive comments about experiences from ADP during the interview process.

Siobhan,

Run away, far far away. Shane Burke doesn't do a very good job with the exception of happy hours.

They call it trying to figure out how persisent you are, I'd call it rude, unprofessional, and a testament to what type of company ADP runs.

Ever wonder why there are hiring so many people. They use people for three to six months and then they get burned out and leave once they figure out it wasn't what they signed up for.

ADP is shady. bottomline

I am curious if someone can help me. I went through an interview with the recruiter and took the assmesment test.I recieved a phone call back from the recruiter who told me that I had done very well on the assesment and I was given my first face to face interview with the DM. At the end of the interview he told me that I would hear something back within 24-48 hrs. Its been a week and half later. I spoke to the recruiter who told me that she has not heard from him about my interview but has not heard "no". Can someone tell me if it takes this long to hear back about a ride along?

In your case it did take that long.

This is a sales job and our hiring manager's like to see some sense of follow up. According to your email you waited about a week to reach out the recruiter, not the hiring manager. (I personally think you should follow up and check in with the recruiter and hiring manager)

did you follow your field ride with a thank you email to both the rep that took you out and the hiring manager?

if not, you may want to make a mental note going forward.

Not all industries are like this, but in Sales we interview too many folks who have a desire and not the skill set needed to do well in the field.

little things like following up are keys to success in a sales role to begin with.

Now, I do not want to put it all on the fact you didn't follow up. Maybe feedback wasn't strong on your field ride.

There are too many factors for me to pin on one, hopefully this will give you some ideas to use in the future.

Good luck on your job search

Shane

Hey Shane, I am a soon to be college graduate from Bryant University. Through my University Career Services Website I have applied for and received an on campus interview with ADP for a SBS District Sales Manager position. I have a strong desire to work in a sales driven position and I have 3+ years experience working for The Acushnet Company as a Titleist/ Cobra Tech-Rep (I worked under the regional sales rep as a demo day specialist fitting customers to golf clubs). I really enjoyed this position and enjoyed working directly with customers. What I wanted to know from you was what exactly does ADP expect from a young college graduate in their recruiting process? I know that this is an extremely competitive environment for finding and holding a job with any company, let alone one as well know and highly regarded as ADP. If you have any tips that would help a young college grad such as myself create interest to ADP recruiters it would be very much appreciated.

Also I find it vain that people need to lash out at someone who it simply trying to help people. I understand that it is an extremely difficult time for those who are out of work however maybe it would be energy better spent if that time and effort was put into searing for more opportunities instead of passing around the blame... usjobs.gov currently has 49,942 federal jobs posted on their website.

Thank you for your time and reading your forum was helpful,

Hi,
I have recently been interviewing with ADP for national accounts. I am on my 5th interview which is going to involve a role play with two of the managers in the national accounts department. I am very confident with the role play but concerned about the background check. I have disclosed that i had previous received misdermeaner charges for simple assault about 3 1/2 years ago in college. Will this affect my chances in getting hired with ADP. I did mention this in my application and spoke about the issue to one of the recruiters and he didnt say much about the issue except asking me questions about what happened. I am currently working on getting my probation dropped this coming week. I hope everything goes in my favor. But either way will my chances be diminished because of this.

Thank You

Legal will review all items that come back on your background check. As long as you disclosed it and it is a misdemeanor it should NOT be an issue. Please make note, I am not part of legal and this does not serve as fact, merely my experience in these situations.

as long as you disclose you are will be a pretty strong shape.

Also, you do not have to tell your hiring manager these details. This can remain between you and your recruiter.

I can tell the recruiter gave you solid advice, by probing into it a little to make sure you understood to disclose it.

if you didn't disclose it and the conviction/misdemeanor came back, your offer would have been rescinded.

Good luck on your role play. Knock 'em dead and get that job!

I have been in touch with a sales recruiting manager at ADP about the outside sales position. They are very quick to respond via e-mails and even phone calls. It has been a very quick progression on both ends.

First, I was just interested in the position so I attached my resume and cover letter. Next day, I get an e-mail informing me to make a candidate profile on adp.com. I tell them I did, then someone calls me. She told me she would be sending me a link so I can take an assessment test. I took the assessment test (about 30 minutes, lots of math questions) and told her I had finished it. Today, she e-mails me and wants to schedule an interview for Wednesday over the phone.

So I'm assuming my assessment test went well. Now, what can I expect? I am graduating in a week from Texas A&M University with an internship at Enterprise Rent-A-Car (major sales experience here) and spent some time at Circuit City as an entertainment sales associate.

I feel I have good sales experience but not nearly as much as some of the other posts on this forum. During the interview, what kind of advice do you guys have? Do I just focus on my sales skills and how I look forward to seeing results and things like that?

Or is it a lot of questions such as "name a time when you had to be assertive... name a time when you ________"

Any advice on the interview process would be great. I'm happy to have heard back so soon and this process really is going by fast. From what I understand, if I don't hear back within 2-3 days, then they are looking for other candidates so I want to perform my best during this phone interview and would love any advice.

Thanks!

Shane,

I was hoping to get some information from you on the MA Sales position in Omaha, NE. I have read through the majority of the posts on this forum and noticed most of these positions are filled from within. That is understandable, however, wanted to see if I could get some information from you. I am currently a sales rep, and sell payroll to businesses ranging from $100,000 to $2.5M in payroll. I have been a top performer in our company for 3 years and am looking to see what other opportunities are available. Obviously I have dealt with all the objections that come from selling payroll and feel more than comfortable in dealing with these objections. Below is my email address, I appreciate any help you can provide.

Shane, I have been interviewing with ADP for 1 month now. I had a face-2-face interview with a recruiter. Then had an interview with the Sales Executive and then with 2 district managers. Overall, i have had 3 interviews. It has been 1 week and 2 days and have heard nothing back. I followed up on the first 2 interviews with an email and called after the 2nd interview because I did not hear anything back. I failed to get a business card on the 3rd interview, so I waited a week (when they were supposed to call) to call and see what the next step was. I left a message to the district manager yesterday and still havent anything. What should I do? do you think i still have a chance..

Shane: I currently work with ADP and have a problem I was wondering if you could give insight on. I am transfering positions and another background check will be done. that is fine except when I left my last employer for ADP, he took it personally and after I left, not only did he fail to pay me the commissions due to me, when I threatnened legal action he trashed me to other co-workers. I am afraid with the new background check, he is going to provide a bad reference. I have a manager at ADP listed as a reference and have been with the company, in excellent standing for one year. I explained the situation and was told "we will see what happens." do you know if they go back again for refernces with an internal transfer? If so, do you know if this situation may keep me from the position? Any help would be appreciated.

I am very interested in interviewing with ADP. I have read many of the frustrations posted, which seem to center around following up from the interview. Follow up for me is not a challenge. For 7 years, I cold called new clients and sold within 5 minutes most of the time. Repeat business with at least 70% retention.

I knew 3 different ADP employees through my last employer (we used ADP services). I have attempted to urge my interview process forward with all 3 of these individuals. I made application for 2 different but related sales positions over a month ago.

My frustration is that I have no contact information with which to follow up. It sounds like others on this forum have received contact by someone involved with the interview process.

How can I find out who I need to talk to. I am used to calling and asking for/setting up an interview. The feedback I have received from my 3 "sources" says the company is in a reorganization phase.

My background would be a definite asset to ADP...it should be the Resume that gets you the interview, but your personality and thinking on your feet that gets you the job!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Shane,

I applied for 6 various outside sales positions (Associate District Manager, District Sales Manager, Major Account Manager, Major Account Sales Representative, TotalSource District Manager, TotalSource Sales Executive) in the Chicago area on Friday, July 3, via the the ADP website. I decided to apply for them all since they have very similar background needs, job descriptions, skill set requirements, etc. Are you able to provide me with any advise and information, please, as to how I might be able to directly contact an ADP recruiter who has responsibilies for placing candidates in these postings? If you don't have direct contact information for me, would you please let me know another ADP recruiter contact whom I may try asking?

Requesting help from a total stranger is extraordinary but I have to compliment you on your willingness to assist via all the comments I've read here! Add me to the list of those who appreciate the time and help you provide!

I also went straight to the Indepenence office to submit a hard copy of my professional resume, and was told they were not allowed to accept it. I was told by the receptionist that everything has to be done online. I understand company policy, but at the same time want to go above and beyond to stand out. I unfortuntely do not recruit for Major accounts here at ADP, but what I can tell you from my experiences is to not turn yourself down on your age and experiences.

It's all about how you present yourself to the recruiter and hiring manager about your experiences.

each region or hiring manager like or dislikes different things about candidates.

some love when you have owned your own business while other fear the corporate shift from calling your own shots to working in corporate settings.

It all depends on the hiring manager preferences.

so your take away shoudl be to make sure your resume is buttoned up with as many successes you can document and submit thru one of our openings on www.adp.com

good luck on your job search.

Hello,

I'm looking to expand my career from inside sales to outside sales. I've been looking into pharma sales and also have heard great things about ADP and decided to take a look. While looking into pharma sales the interview process is pretty in depth and from what I've read it sounds similar to ADP's interview process as well. Can anyone provide any further insight into the typical interview steps for an outside sales position (SBS Outside Sales Associate)? Also, with pharma sales you're expected to have a "brag book". Is that also the case for ADP?

Thanks.

Hi Shane,
I just wanted to thank you for taking the time to answer all the questions. It's great to see how helpful you are. I have applied for an Outside Sales position with ADP and ready to that the online assessment. I too have BAD(recent)credit, but my previous credit history was excellent. I worked for an employer for 8 years and made very good money. Once I was laid off, I did get another job but made considerably less (about a 1/2 of the income). Due to the economy/job loss my credit has suffered and at this point bankruptcy may be the next option. I know this is a question for your legal dept, but how does ADP look at this as far as new candidates go? Do I even have a shot?

I have been trying to get into ADP in the Alpharetta office. I have even tried to do the whole walk and talk thing. However the security guard was nice enough to get the number for hr and showed me the way out. Also, I tried calling the number. However, I got the run around from HR and no clear cut answer. So I have been applying to any position relevant to my skill set. Unfortunately, I have not received any response from anyone. All I am looking for is a chance to talk to someone and a shot at a position. I know this is a wonderful company to work for with great benefits. Does anyone have a recruiter number or email in my area? Thank you.

I have submitted a resume for a Risk Management Safety Specialist job in Tampa FL and feel my credentials are in line with job requirements. Is there a local recruiter I can contact in regards to this position or should I try a noational recruiter?

Thanks for any help.

Hi Shane,
I have a very strong background in B2B sales and prospecting, calling on affluent business owners, banking, HR and cold calling. I recently applied for a sales associate position in the Tampa Bay market. Would you please send me the contact info for the recruiter in my area? Thanks!

I recently interviewed for two positions at an ADP office in Parsippany, NJ (junior financial analyst and Implementation consultant). I was alerted of the positions through a local temp agency. Both interviews went excellent, and they said I would be contacted within a day or two. One day later, the temp agency called me both of the interviewers said I was "overqualified". I have the names of both of the people I interviewed with, but no way of contacting them to verify whether this was true or not. As a recent college graduate with only a year or two of relevant work experience, it is hard to believe I was overqualified for either position, regardless of my resume (valedictorian nominee, summa cum laude, etc).

Is there any way that an ADP rep could e-mail me (I can provide the names of the people I interviewed with and more personal information through e-mails) and tell me if I there is a way of verifying that they considered me overqualified? I just want to make sure I am not being taken advantage of by the temp agency.

Thanks,
-Mike Dean

Hi there,

I've applied to ADP's SBS position, and received an invitation to complete the online assessment, which from my understanding, I passed. I've tried many times to contact my recruiter, and left multiple voicemail messages with my contact information, but have gotten nowhere. Honestly, it's starting to seem like my phone calls are being dodged. I assumed that trying more than one measly time would show initiative, a quality valued by many, if not all, employers. I know that I would be an invaluable asset to any company, and I would really like to prove that with ADP. However, if I'm not the right candidate for the job, I would appreciate the courtesy of at least being informed of this. Is this just a sign that my application is being reviewed? I really don't want to sound impatient or demanding, but I have nothing to go off of, since communication up to this point has been one-way. I have no doubt that I would meet and exceed expectations and be an excellent addition to the ADP team, I just haven't been given the critical platform to prove it (yet).

In The Dark,

Dustin

Dustin,

I am sorry to hear that you have heard nothing from the recruiter yet. Do you have the Req # you applied to?

if so please reply back with it.

Thanks,
