What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at ADT Security Services? What do you like best about working at ADT Security Services? Are there any great perks or special treats for employees? |

This is a churn and burn employer... few leads and mostly foot work leads. So much turn over.. poor training... avoid it if you can,. |

I agree completly. I dont understand why a company as large as this one pays sales commision only. With gas at 3 and a half bucks a gallon its not worth going to the interveiw let alone working as a job. |

I just got an offer as a custom home sales rep with ADT. I am excited for the opportunity to work for the top name in security in the world, but also a little bit nervous about the working environment, and the pay from what I see on these threads. I was told I could make alot of money if I just apply myself, and work hard. Anymore feedback from anyone who works (worked) for the company as a sales rep? Any info would be much appreciated. I start Tuesday 8/05. Thanks! |

Custom Reps are on a different pay scale than Resi-reps. Generally in Custom you can make a little more money. With Resi-Reps it is all about the amount of units, so you need to process more units a month to make the same amount. Custom your dealing with mostly individuals with money(Need to shoot for over$2000/unit). With normal Resi it is a crap shoot. The leads are not really screened the way they should be. Make sure you have a good install department otherwise it can kill deals with problems. Charge backs can kill you if the customer you sold does not get installed or changes their mind before install.

Thanks for the feedback. I've been with the company 5 months now, and haven't made nearly enough to adequately support a family. I'm hanging on by a thread with this job now, unless things really pick up bigtime...I know like you said you can't depend solely on the company leads, but I've had 2 in the last 3 weeks, and both people wanted a FREE swap out of their keypads! With the economy the way it is, I just don't know if it will work out. Full commission is a joke too....if they want less turnover, they should seriously consider even a SMALL base salary... |

Are the Small Business Sales jobs at ADT good? I just went to an interview and am wondering if it is as low-stress as I was told. |

I can't really speak for small biz since I do residential, but it's not really low stress when you have to sell to make any money...I think over time with experience, as you get better and gain referrals from knowing people, the stress would go down I'm sure. I will say, although it takes time to start making consistent money, the commissions are pretty high, and they have reward programs and other incentives as well too. It's all what you put in...for me it's tough right now, but I'm sure things will pick up. |

Looking for some honest advice here so any/all comments are more than welcome. I just had a meeting with a local Sales Manager at an ADT office. As someone with primarily an Operations background, I walked in very nervous and skeptical. After speaking with the guy for about an hour, most of my reservations waned. The big "soother" was the fact that he really pushed the idea that sales reps don't have to generate the majority of their leads. Instead, they're generated in a scheduling format by a company called Telmar. Those calls are generally expected to break down as 1/3 sale, 1/3 no sale and 1/3 "maybe." At that point, you are expected to generate only 4 extra referrals (forgot the term he used) from your customer contacts. He also stated that $50K is easy and expected but many earn at least $75K. Again, I don't know the outside sales game (only been involved with inside sales for higher end products like Oreck). So, hit me with some straight answers Indeed users! |

Let me start by saying that I left ADT a few months back as a resi sales rep to pursue a different path in the steam engineering industry. The reason being, that I have a baby and alot of expenses, and the down economy really took a toll on me financially. Not to scare you, because you might be in a better market, and the economy seems to be looking up somewhat now. I would have to agree with what the manager told you for the most part, although it looks like he might have made it sound easier than it is. If you stay with it for awhile, 4 SG's a month shouldn't be too hard to accomplish, but at first with no customer base it is pretty difficult, but again that depends on your market. Your marketing abilities really have to come out to be able to do it, and here's the kicker...the bulk of the Telmar leads are given to the reps with the highest SG numbers, so if you're lacking in that dept. consistently, you won't get as many as they will. Cont...... |

I struggled with SG's though because the economy was at its worst at the time, nobody was interested it seemed and the Telmar leads were almost none existent. But I've seen alot of reps that have been in it for awhile making really good money and you pretty much make your own schedule which is nice especially if you have family. Good luck, I hope this helps. |

I went away thinking they required quite a bit of structure from the reps. More than I am used to, and made it very clear that a 60-70 hour work week was expected. Went as far as to say they would not except a 40 hour week. Saturdays were expected as well. Don't know if i'll get the offer .....don't know if i'll take it. Any more thoughts would be appreciated. |

With gas at 3 and a half bucks a gallon its not worth going to the interview let alone working as a job. Rooster..It's very rare to find an outside sales job that pays anything other than straight commission because you're relatively unsupervised and the company doesn't make money unless you sell something. There is a give an take with regard to potential commissions and freedom vs. salary and having a task master..just my 2 cents. My question is how much on average can a person expect to make per sale selling to businesses. At least a ball park number would be fine. I've been in B2B outside sales as an independent contractor and even as a sales office with my own reps for 8 years. Getting my own leads isn't a problem as I already know how to prospect and have my own phone reps too. I'm looking at selling for ADT more as a way to add another product to my bag. I currently sell point of sale systems, digital video surveillance and payment processing and am making good money plus residual from those things. I'm wanting to make sure that selling ADT won't take away from my other sales and if the commissions aren't good enough I may not want to do it. My second question is how labor intensive is it for a rep. I'm looking for a sale where I can close it, turn in my paperwork and know that everything else is taken care of (obviously I will follow up I just have some really labor intensive products that I already sell that are very high profit and I don't want to over extend myself. For example, selling a point of sale system(s) may be worth 4-5k per unit to me but also takes literally weeks to program, install and train the customer on. |

I was out of work since the beginning of this month!! I just got hired on with ADT ( 10 months out of work) for Special Services Sales Rep. It went down like this..
Benifits are as follows almost 4K a month (while training) wage for the frst 16 weeks of employment. Make extra money on selling other products and get comp. for travel and cell phone is paid for (if under 100 dollars a month - metro pcs is $40 - 50 unlimited ) Roughly I have to sell 3 units a week minimum... by my 20th week 12-13 units a month?
Think about it, car salesman have to sell the second most expensive item someone will ever own in their life next to their home... and the average sales guy/gal sells 6-10 a week... with ADT you get Health and dental after 30 days A retirement plan 401k they match dollar for dollar!

THREE MONTH UPDATE - - - I am still with ADT since late November. I am a HHSSR Home Health Specialty Services Representative (official title)I install the Companion Units, better know as (PERS) Personal Emergency Response Systems. I have surpassed the minimum requirements for the sales quotas. I work with a great manager I meet /work with a great team. I believe the reason why I am doing so good is because I honestly bring a positive attitude and want to do the absolute best job possible every day. I meet with business owners / office executives establish partnerships / referral partners / and promoters. My office is my car, make sure you got a cost effective car. I am not supervised other then a daily report of my actions and a morning confrence call with my team. I have a exclusive operating area that work in. Low stress... Very Important..... I am in my 30's I had about 2 dozen jobs in various careers. This is the absolute best job I have been introduced to. I am in Southern California so if anyone reading this wants to work at a great company let me know I will be glad to talk to you and refer you over...slindstrom@adt.com Someone asked why is there such a large turn over? Its a sorting process you have to go through a barrel of apples ( reds, greens & rotten's ) Maybe your a red apple or green apple... Red apples please apply green and rotten apples... (It's sales, and if you dont like sales then it's probably not for you.) Everyone... good luck out there. |

Host said: What are the average starting salaries, bonuses, benefits and travel requirements like at ADT Security Services? No, treated poorly. Lousy training by big ego trainers, fight to get commissions, few leads, what was promised is not true, managers care only about sales not helping, lots of silly sales meetings and teleconferences. |

The good news however is if you want to earn 50K to 100K per year it is possible, there are guys making this money. They have figured out how to get referrals or they know lots of people and they self generate alot of their own business. It isnt impossible, people are doing it. I am just telling you that if you despise making phone calls to strangers soliciting appointments, knocking on strangers doors and working Nights and Saturdays, driving to Ghost appointments, then ADT is not going to work for you. Fortunately for myself I received a call from another employer I had been working on prior to my ADT experience and out of the blue was offered a real base pay, real commissions, a good Monthly Auto Allowance plus fuel expense by receipt. I will make just as much or more than ADT, I will work less hours, control my own schedule. Actually shouldnt say I will, I am is more like it. Oh on final note, ADT is in process of splitting off from TYCO. They are looking to be sold so pressure is on Sales right now so the company looks more attractive. But once sold what happens next? Benefit plans could change, Expectations could change. Uncertain future, each day letters would arrive talking about who was loosing their job, not sales but still if support groups are nervous about their job how does that translate when you need support? Just be cautious before you jump in. Closing, I made more money on Unemployment than I did in my 3 months at ADT. I thought I was finally successful in getting infront of a decision maker and gaining employment. Instead a warm pulse and clean record would have easily gotten the job........ |

I just went to an interview with a security company that sells ADT. They are not offering any weekly training pay to start. ADT itself will pay you $2000 the first month and $1500 each month thereafter for another 4 months. Plus a cell and gas allowance. Why the reseller isn't offering anything makes me wonder if they are legit. Can anyone comment? |
