I don't know when that was but my wife is/was employed there and from what I've seen the overall maintenance of the grounds and buildings leaves something to be desired. Also, the hours expected of the employees are limitless, the office understaffed and scheduling you 6 or even 7 days straight, 9+ hours a day is not uncommon. Say you're scheduled to work 9-6. You can't take a lunch break because it is swamped, no one is available to cover for you and you dont want to walk out with phones ringing and people in front of you waiting for assistance. Now at 5:00pm it slows down. You cannot leave at 5:00 after an 8 hour day. You are scheduled til 6:00. This is how 9 hour days occur regularly. They don't care about the employees, whether they see their families, or feel like they're on call every day.

I'm not a lawyer, but I don't think they can wait 7 years to notify you about a problem. Depending on the situation, you may be able to get the charge legally expunged. AIMCO was terrible about dealing with this kind of thing when I lived there. They tried to overcharge me about as much as they're trying to charge you. (An extra month's rent plus other charges, despite cancelation of my contract via several different methods, advance payment of rent to the end of my contract which I documented and sent to them multiple times, etc.)

You really have to get around AIMCO's system (which is broken) and talk to one of the higher-ups directly. I made the mistake of trying to go through their established channels and wasted several hundred hours of my time. The people in the office don't have any power to correct this garbage as far as I know, and this forces them to act badly when a problem comes up since they're unable to correct the errors that they make.

Also, you need to get more information on what they're charging you for, what documentation they have that you owe the charges, who is suing you (AIMCO or a collection agency?) etc.

Send a note to the BBB, first the local then the corporate branch. Don't expect them to solve the problem, but it will get you some more information to use and also alert other people to the type of problems at AIMCO.

Also, keep a lookout here for others with the same problem. If they cause any damage to you which results in your not getting a job or apartment they're legally liable for that damage. If enough people share your problem, you could participate in a class action suit.

Personally, I've already settled with them.

AIMCO TRYING TO SCREW ME OUT OF MY EMPLOYMENT !!

Yes 8! I stayed as long as I could stand it (2 months) and the woman was still not back from medical leave. I gave Kelly Services a week's notice as I was working thru them. It was just like working in a factory. Too much work in too little time -- very stressful. And the Sr. VP's I reported to were not pleasant or appreciative at all. I had to order their lunches every day as they ate in (the company paid for it); it was a strange uncomfortable place to work. The admins. who survived reminded me of Stepford Wives waiting on their husbands.

I work for AIMCO and I have never been treated so badly. I can double your comment, trying to get out. I have never seen such terrible management in my life. The management did not report unless it was lunch and the racial slurs around the complex were terrible.

I worked for Aimco not to long ago they do try to hide mold and mildew problems, I was on the maintenence team if you can call it that, the distrct mang would come on property and fudge the work orders, put band aids on the problems (poor residants) when i tried to do the job properly I was repremanded. I saw them firer the previouse maint. tech when he was still on medical leave, they always wanted me to sign papers about things that i did not wittness. In the long run I got my hours cut more than half, Im not going to pay any company to work for them.

I've seen quite a few complaints on this board mention a Florida class action lawsuit, but I cannot find anything credible on this and zero media coverage. If anyone has anything, can you post it and let me know? I am having HUGE problems with AIMCO and have contacted a lawyer and press. I have some major, national outlets looking to cover this but would like access to this Florida lawsuit. Any help would be much appreciated!
