Howdy everyone - for the sake of private protection I will be calling myself Bunny. I applied for a Customer Service position in the Call center in Davenport, IA. Through the next few weeks, I'll do my best to answer any kind of questions you guys are going through. I figure most of us here will or have gone through the same thing and it's best we try to help each other out.

My experience:
I applied online, and received a phone call 2 days later. Interview went well, I got very basic Interview questions (Name a time when..., What would you do with a difficult customer.. etc) I was then asked to do an in-person interview at the Call Center. I interviewed the very next day. Personally, I loved the manager I interviewed with. There is a form he follows and fills out, although we often deviated from the interview. At the end of the interview he told me something I would never forget: "I was looking for someone who could hold a conversation with me, if you can't do that I usually just move on" As I left my interview I realize that I had been in there for over an hour and a half! (One of the longest interviews I've had)

The Hiring Process (ughhhh...continued)

--- The Hiring Process ----

3 days later ( 5/12/14) I received an e-amil from HIRERIGHT. I had done a bit of research on the company and read the horror stories on here, my nerves instantly got the best of me. On the 14th of May, I was scrolling through my Junk mail and scrolled by an E-mail from Hireright, it was for my drug screening, and it was due on the 14th!!! I flew out of my house and to the drug testing center. (CHECK YOUR JUNK EMAILS!!) On the 15th I got an E-mail requesting my W2's or Paystubs from one of my past employers. Hireright goes through everything, ALL My past jobs (in the last 5 years) were contacted and my School was also contacted to provide my scheduling information. On of my past Supervisors was a really good friend of mine- She was only asked my Start and End date, Title, and my Rate of pay.

I received my "official Offer" today (5/19) and went through the AT&T Portal to complete paper work and such.

My training doesn't begin until the 27th - Eep!! I'm nervous1!

I had my face to interview on May 15, that same day I was asked to go visit my store manager. After speaking with him, he told me "Before we leave my office i just want to tell you that i really like you and your personality. I like the way to carry your self and everything about you". After we left his office we walked around the store and i shadowed a couple of the works then after that he told me it was 7 to 10 day till i get a call.

The next day I went and gave him a thank you letter and told him that i thank him for interviewing me and he reply by saying "i really enjoyed you also" with a smile on his face.

On May 22 got an email talking about doing a survey about tax credit and my SSN.

I check my status and it say complete.

My question is Whats next? Do i have the job? How long will i have to wait now? When will HR or someone call me telling me i got the job?

I saw the exact same thing. The staffing manager for my area called me within about a day of me filling out that form to offer me the position contingent on the HireRight background check. It seems like they don't send that email without them wanting you for the position.

The next step if they're interested in hiring you should be the hireright process, which is by far probably the most stressful thing I've been through when trying to get a job (Then again I've never applied to be a firefighter!) You should alert your previous employers (Manager or HR manager) and let them know to be expecting a call from HireRight withing 24-48 hours after you get the e-mail. Your application says "Complete" which means they will likely be sending you hiring information.

That's exactly right Romax, if you get an e-amil from Hireright you have the job - you just need to make sure you background and drug tests are on par and the job is yours!

Complete just means that the hiring manager has completed the interview and questions he had for you and has been forwarded to either going to forward your application to HireRight for your background or decide to go with another person. This is the sit right and wait part, which is easier said than done.

.::.::.::..::.::.::..::.::.::..::.::.::.DAY 1 (Training).::..::.::.::..::.::.::..::.::.::..::.::.::.
(( Please remember I am doing Call Center Training, Retail might be a totally difference experience))

What a whirl-wind. The day flew by, lots of information gathered.

We talked about how Training will be a 3-2-2 Schedule, meaning 3 weeks of classroom training, 2 weeks on the floor and another 2 weeks of classroom training.

We followed by turning in our IDs/Socials, etc for verification and getting our ID Pictures taken.

After this we talked about the Customer Experience and watched a video on AT&T and all the numbers it holds.

Our breaks are broken out into 2 hours segments (you get a break every 2 hours)
2 hours of work
15 minute Break
2 hours of work
1 hour lunch
2 hours of work
15 minute break
2 hours of work
go home.

We were then taken into the CWA (union) Meeting where we were given the option to join or not to join.

We then Set up our ATTUID and Passwords in order to log onto our computers and set up our Direct deposit and W4's

We then followed with a tour of the facility. ((THe Davenport facility features a Cafeteria with a Starbucks self serve station, Pizzas, Subs, Fresh Fruit, Three massive fridges to put your food in, Vending Machines, a Ping Pong Table and a Bean bag throwing game and three TVS)

That was pretty much it for day 1 of Training - if you guys have any questions feel free to let me know =)

I quit my retail sales consultant job with AT&T yesterday. I have been miserable, my family is miserable. If you have a family, forget about ever being there for important things. The schedule is not flexible at all and you will never have off weekends. The pay is average as far as I'm concerned. To make goal for commission is very hard when you add in all the ranking factors and the commission is taxed at 33% so not much left for your pocket. Breaks.... Supposed to be an hour lunch and two fifteen minute breaks. Never seen a fifteen minute break once. Schedules will change by the day for the needs of the store. Forget about getting your vacation times approved and if you're sick, even if you have personal time available, they will give you a point. This job isn't for anyone who wants a life outside of the the walls of AT&T.

That's your opinion. I have been with AT&T for 7 years and even when I first started, -- people need to understand that it is a Unoin based job, seniority runs the schedule, so you will be last on the food chain for a while. I love my job, I love the people I work for, I DO get my 15 minute breaks and my hours and if you weren't getting them, that was your responsibility to report, if you didn't report it that's you're own fault. As far as I'm concerned At&t is great company to work for. The first year, you have very little say in your schedule but if you make it past that, it gets so much better I work a 9-5 Monday to Friday now and I have been since I hit the two year mark.

I do understand that all stores run differently with their respective managers. Our store was short staffed and probably determined a lot. Maybe I've been spoiled working in an industry where I've made my own schedule. I took a pay cut going to AT&T, looking for the benefits. For me and my family the sacrifices made, not being there for my kids. They're just not worth it. So back to my last job I go, with the freedom to plan my own days. I wish everyone the best if you're going after a job with retail. It's just not for me.

When it comes to AT&T, you either love it or hate it. I too applied for AT&T because of the benefits. I had other job offers at the time, and AT&T actually offered me slightly more pay because I had a degree. Not a lot of retail places do that. It's true that when you first start, you get the leftover shifts. Nobody wants to work weekends and evenings, but for me it works out because I'm not a morning person. I live with my partner and have no kids. He happens to work weekends and evenings as well, so this was actually the perfect job for me. It accommodates both of our schedules.

My store is understaffed as well, so I rarely take my 15 min breaks. I don't have an issue with it because I'm still making commission while with a customer. How can you run away from a potential sale? Everyone has a different mindset, but if you need the break, there's no harm in asking management. They can't deny you a break.

I'm 3 months into my job, I have no complains so far. There has been times I needed a day off and the schedule has already been set a month in advance. If you befriend coworkers, they will gladly switch a shift with you, if you find that you cannot work (granted you return the favor one day) When the manager approves it, you're good to go.

Overall, I think if you have a great team there should be no problems whatsoever. Yes, your commission could be a crappy check or a good one but it's really what you make of it. YOU control your sale, not the customer.

Have you heard anything back regarding your start date? I was "conditionally hired" on June 4 pending a background check and drug screen. I have not heard anything back yet and training starts on June 30th. I was contacted on June 4 by HireRight to submit a W2 for one of my jobs, but that was it.

I can give u an update on how I feel after working there. After years and years of wanting to work for this company. I finally got employed. Went through training... and I hated it. AT&T does NOT care about the employees. The people that worked along side me... i would have thought I was at some hoodrat walmart. The pay is awsome. The hours are decent . I seeked elsewhere for a job that was peacefull and less stressfull.

I love it so far. I don't allow the actions of other people to deter me from my goals. I applied at AT&T bc I wanted to work there. Everywhere you go you will deal with bs but in life you have to learn how to stay focus and I guess in your case if you don't feel like it's worth it you move on but I'll never allow another employee make me quit my job. In today's job market good jobs that pay decent with benefits are hard to come by educated or not. Sorry it didn't work out for you.

Hi everyone, I just want to share my story and in turn hopefully receive some insight.

I applied on 11/13 for a Retail Sales Consultant Position. That evening I took the 2 questionnaires. I must have passed them because my status was then updated to "your resume is under review".

On 11/18 I received an email about a hiring fair att was having. I could not attend, so the recruiter scheduled me for a phone interview for 11/21 with the regional hiring manager.

On 11/21 I got the call and had the 25 minute interview. It went well and I was told to expect a call from the store manager within 3 days to schedule a second interview. During the interview, the hiring manager actually told me that She was going to send me to another store because it was closer. Cool.

On 11/21, less than 2 hours after my phone interview, the store manager called me to set something up for a "Realistic Job Preview". I called her back and we scheduled for today, 11/25. We have the same alma mater so that was a good bonus.

Today, I had my realistic job preview. I came to the back office, we talked for about 30 minutes. Most questions were about my prior jobs and how I did in them. She asked me about my familiarity with technology, prior retail exp, etc. then she asked me what I like to do for fun. It was more of a laid back conversation than a huge interview. More of the major questions were asked in my phone interview. After the questions and answers, I spent about 40 minutes speakng with and shadowing 2 different employees, 1 male and 1 female. The female was nice and she was very new (3 mos). The male was there for several years and is the primary one I shadowed with. After he completed a transaction (SIM card activation) he brought me back to the office and told the store manager he thinks I would be a good fit. I sat back down and told her I enjoyed shadowing and that jt was nice to see the sales process from a new perspective. She then told me she would reach out to the hiring manager to let her know how it went.

She then gave me a few of her business cards and told her to be in touch if I have any questions. She did not say if I did or did not have the job.

My question is, what do I do now?! I am planning to send a thank you email to her as well as ask for the Huron managers email to thank her. But, other than that, is there anything more I can and should do? How long should I expect to be waiting?

Any other questions, comments or insight? Anything would be appreciated!!!

Hello Jackie, I just completed what you are going through right now. I am starting in the store Dec 8th before I start training January 5th due to my background check clearing a day late. My training was suppose to start on Dec 5th. But to answer your question. If you already have had your phone interview, interview with hiring manager and the next interview with the store manager...mine was with the DM and SM, then all you need to do is wait for a message from AT&T requesting your social security number and for you to fill out a tax credit survey. If you receive that email then you have the job! The next step after that is to wait for an email from Hire Right and your drug screening. Remember to list your Jobs from the last 5 years with exact month and year...you have to be within 6 months. If you are only a high school graduate and are currently in college, don't put down your college. It is hard to verify your enrollment especially if you go to a big university like me, Penn State. With the holidays going, not every department is open and will call hire right back. This is according to my recruiter so I just followed her instructions to make the background clear in 2-3 days. And oh!, if you have any convictions that are not on your record or has been reduced to only a violation like a disorderly conduct....DO NOT put it on the hire right application. It will be flagged and then you will have to explain it to the adjuction team and they make the final decision. Please feel free to ask me anymore questions for I am coming from working for Verizon Wireless the last 4 years.

Thanks so much, Ade!

My concern is not so much with when I could/would start, but *whether* I got the job or not. I am seeing that the process isn't always speedy, and that you must be patient.

Thankfully, I have already graduated from college. The only "thing" on my record would be a traffic ticket from June 2012 where I ran a stop sign. It was paid right the next day.

An update: The store manager did reply to my thank you email yesterday afternoon and said it was very nice to meet me and that the team enjoyed sharing their insights with me. She again told me if I had any questions to please ask her. She also said I should be hearing a response from the hiring department soon. Today *is* thanksgiving, and tomorrow many people may not be working, so I will definitely give it some time.

So, fingers crossed! :-) Let me know what, if anything, you think

Well, I got the dreaded application status change to "Other candidate selected".

I am very disappointed but I'm sure somebody else was more qualified and did a better job on the interview. It would have been nice to know where or how I may have ruined my chances. I only have a few months of retail experience but I do have a 4 year degree in psychology and extensive work experience.

I have applications into T-Mobile and Verizon, as I am still interested in working in electronic/wireless sales, so I am hoping to hear back from one of them.

I'm sorry to hear about that Jackie! I'm waiting hopefully on a call from AT&T. The status on mine has said "Awaiting department review" for a few weeks now... HireRight completed my background check on 11/24 for a Wire Technician, but I still haven't heard any thing from AT&T yet. Is this a normal amount of time, or should I hang in there a little longer? So, I don't really know what's going on there. The only thing on my record is a speeding ticket and a ticket for my brake light being out. Thats after 5 years. Is that going to prevent me from getting hired on? Please give any info/advice about this.

Thanks

That's the thing. I don't think I had a "recruiter", or I wouldn't have been so anxious. However, I did get in touch with someone finally! He told me I was approved for hire, but I don't start training until 2/6/14. So, I guess that's why I hadn't gotten a call or anything.

It's a call center customer service position. The other positiom it's an assistant manager with another company for $5 dollars less. I know usually money speaks but, I'm very inclined to work work Att just trying to get a feel. And see how would be a day like and how it's the feedback from the managers that walk the floor and monitor the calls. What are they looking for?

I see. Well, if you are applying to sales customer service position then it is very aggressive and you are expected to meet a monthly goal. You will be given the best training and you will be expected to follow that training very closely otherwise you will be possibly disciplined. My experience working for AT&T in sales has been pleasant because I enjoy talking to others and building a great solution for them and explaining it in a way they understand. I have no experience in call center however; I work with someone who did call center for 4 years and has not looked back. You will build very great working relationships with your peers as far as the work will it be Tech Support, Billing, or inbound sales?

You will be given the best training and you will be expected to follow that training very closely otherwise you will be possibly disciplined. My experience working for AT&T in sales has been pleasant because I enjoy talking to others and building a great solution for them and explaining it in a way they understand. It's android technical support. When u say he hasn't look back. What do you mean? Like he likes it or he doesn't.

Is it imperative to list literally all past employers..Some I honestly don't think I can remember unless I pull up my taxes for the job I claimed taxes for. Some were honestly too short to even attach to my resume or even bring up.. I am honestly fully capable of obtaining a job for a long period of time, don't get me wrong. If I ONLY list the employers from my resume, will I pass the back round check?

Hey Bunny!

I was just wondering. I was offered a job and they even asked me to come in and meet the manager and get everything set up. But upon that meet, its been three days and they haven't contacted me or told what days im working....

Ps. When i met the manager, i wasnt fully myself because i was sick. So did i just ruin my chances in getting good hours for this job????
