Do you work at Affiliated Computer Services? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

My son completed serving in the US Marines for about 7- 8 years, in January.
Now is May 2 9, and he is still unemployed in his area of training.
My hear bleeds when I think about ALL THE successful SPECIALIZED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE he received and it looks as if it is not going to continue there in Tacoma, Washington. His resume shows the amount of responsibility he was given as a computer technician while a marine, and I have pictures of some of the air crafts he worked on while in Florida's Naval base and Hawaii.
My cell number is 832-367-3509 0r home:281821-2426 serve well in contacting me if you could talk to my only son.
I am pleading for help because he is a proud American who speaks out in behalf of his president's efforts and I expected better treatment from employers.
Thanks for considering our family.

Being a veteran doesn't give you preferential status when applying for a job. Just another lie from Corporate America.
Furthermore, speaking out "in behalf of his president's efforts" will not help your son gain employment.

Welcome to the real world.

I currently work there and for the person that manages recruiting for ACS - it is a horrible place to work. They treat you as you though you have no rights, but I happen to be that 1 person who knows better. It is miserable. You treat your "customers" like dogs and your managers do nothing. Someone should check out how the airline customer is being handled. What a joke? I know because of legitimate problems, I can back up with documentation, I am going to be fired, but I am that one who will scream and contact the AG, EEOC, and any other place I can think of. It just takes one person to finally open everyone's eyes. I happen to know the law - even in a right to work state there are federal guidelines.

Has he tried Lockheed Martin? They love prior service.
How about Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, and SAIC (I believe this is a contract agency)? Best of luck.

Yes.... my advice is DON'T work at ACS! I have worked there for over 3 years; my pay has gone from $12.50/hr to $13.10/hr in that time. I have seen so many transgressions against employees that it's unbelievable. And we put up with it because Ariz is a "right to work" state. What that means is that we have no rights! ACS takes pride in hiring a great many minorities; racial, sexual-orientation, gender, and age. This makes them look good. But look at management; most are white, female, under 50 years old. That's not minority!

Former ACS employee in Plano, Texas

I worked at ACS for almost 2 years. It was the worst job I've ever had. There is absolutely no reason to apply at ACS. Just don't do it... resist the urge. I read the blogs before I interviewed and because I was desperate for a job, I felt I had to interview and try to get a job there. After accepting their job offer, where I was told there would be a 401k match and a bonus, I found out a month after my start date that there was NO 401k match or bonus. Seven months after working like a dog for them 10 to 12 hours a day and on weekends with no OT pay, they gave my whole department a 5% paycut. It took me 18 months to find another job. If you don't kiss @ss and suck up, you will not be promoted. If you have any solid skills or intelligence level and your boss feels threatened by it, they will sabotage you and do their best to make you look bad. I found out from other employees that I worked with that my manager was blaming me for his mistakes. If you have any good innovative ideas they are also seen as threats or they will be manipulated slightly and your manager will steal them. There is no respect for your home life and they wouldn't let us telecommute. There is absolutely no flexibility. When I was hired, they told me they were flexible. When I had to take my daughter to tutoring, oh we don't offer flex time here and you will have to get approval from your VP. The directors and managers talk out both sides of their mouths. Lies, lies, and more lies. ACS has promoted or hired people that do not have the skill set to be a manager, director, or VP. The reason ACS is hiring so many people is they can't keep staff on because of the poor treatment and offshoring they are doing. If you want to be disrespected and belittled, go ahead, post on an ACS job.
