Do you work at AIG? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview? Any advice for someone trying to get in? |

You Should Treat People Better in West Chicago, Illinois 59 months ago |
True story: AIG chased me and chased me for a management job, and finally got me to come across state lines for an interview. I traveled twice to Milwaukee. Then, nothing…no calls, no screw you letter, nothing. I called the HR Director, who did not return my phone call. He also had my email address. He didn’t bother to do anything. I saw the job posted again today. Rude would be the way I describe the company and it’s management. There’s no call for that kind of behavior. I should have read the posts on Indeed.com before I agreed to go, however, there was no link in the AIG postings. I had to come to the forums to post. What happened, Indeed? Please fix this and save us time and trouble. I’m now glad I didn’t get the job if that’s how they treat guests, imagine how they treat employees! Since the AIG Indeed forums are scattered about, I intend to post this on every one I can find. |

Sorry, I typed the response in Word, then cut and pasted it. Seems Indeed doesn't like Word fonts... |

These guys never call re: resume submissions, especially if you're more than qualified for a position. |

I had an interview with them for a business analyst role. Said they would contact me with the decision within a week. I gave them a call a week and a half later. Didn't hear from them. Called them back again 2 more times. Left msgs for several of the associates i interview with. Never heard from them. This is from the NYC office. Screw em |

I went 3 rounds in interviews & it took a month to get a response. I gave them a 5 year commitment & apparently that wasn't long enough. My advise is to tell them you'll work there long enough to die at your desk. Another thing they want to hear is that you're married & have older kids- that way you wont leave the company to start a family. i guess they want someone who needs a company to run away from their family(?) |

Done consulting for them. The worst place to work for I've ever been. Being able to yell obscenities appears to be the only managerial requirement. While I was there, I found it shocking the company could actually make money. |

Interviewed for over 2 hours. They said they would call, no call, no letter, very unprofessional organization. It is a blessing, I have heard they are micro managed and have no flexibility in Northern california |

I've had various recruiters contact me concerning opportunities there, most equal to or senior from where I am now. The common thread tends to be one of compensation -- it's basically non-existent compared to their counterparts in the same industry. One recruiter commented that "they'd prefer to hire 2 cheap and incompetent slackards to the one competent but market-rate professional they really need" and that "he's never seen such a target-rich environment in need of change because of the over-running lack of competency." I watched a few years ago as my former organization took on a host of AIG wunderkinds, none of whom had much on the ball, all of which had a very aggressive demeanor. The poster who commented that management's lone qualification is the ability to scream is spot-on. |

Maybe this an industrywide problem. I saw worst on USAA forum. |

I have repeatedly applied to American General for several different positions. I too encountered the rudeness from HR. I emailed several times. Was told I would hear something by the middle of the next week....then no call, no letter, no email. Sad thing is....AGF/AIG is one of the major employers in this area for my line of work. So I just keep applying. |

Interviewed for a Management position for AGF, more than qualified; because I worked for over 4 1/2 years for one of their competitors. Upper management was impressed with my accolades at other company. I was given the business card of the District Manager that had flown for the interview, told to call him on Wednesday. I phoned several times, never heard from them again. Two to three years, I heard that the DM was fired, duh...I wonder why. |

Worked for them pre-law school in the 80's and would say at that point they were good at getting back to people. Now as an attorney, a current employee put in my resume for a position. After she nagged HR repeatedly, the resume was forwarded to the applicable dept and I got an interview. After meeting with assorted people, I was told they would let me know in a month. I have called them repeatedly, never got a response. HR person was too rude to even reply to my e-mails and calls. Not in the least bit impressed. I frankly cannot fathom why a company cannot tell a candidate no. |

They would rather have a dumb blonde with a big rack than competent intellengent dedicated employees with great work ethics.--so if you have the rack good luck! |
