I work as a Sr Engineer (Java) in St Louis, MO and have been with Ajilon Consulting for the last 4 years. I started working on a client project/contract 1 years back and have continued with the same client. The salary is around $80K/year+ benefits like Medical, dental, vision, tuition reimbursement etc. The salary is driven by the billing rates which Ajilon receives from its clients. Luckily for me the billing rates are good. However I have heard of instances within Ajilon Consulting where they have offered to pay $70K/year+benefits for similar Java positions/contracts at other clients. They also take a big cut from the billing rates. For example if the billing rate is $78/hour they may pay you around $80k/year+benefits which indicates that they are keeping around 40-45% of the billing amount. Ajilon has good processes in place to ensure all benefits and salaries are received as per the employee's expectation. They have limited clients in St Louis and focus their re-marketing efforts with these clients which often leaves limited options for consultants and longer bench time between contracts/projects. Quite often the re-marketing can take a few weeks to a month during which time there is no bench salaries and whatever time is accumulated in the PTO (Paid-time off) should be used up. Overall its been a positive experience working at Ajilon Consulting. Each staffing company has some negative attributes and we need to make some adjustments to manage our careers with these companies. |

And a 40 to 45% profit margin is high for the industry, like you said. It's a matter of choice. |

I even got paid bench time between assignments and the opportunity for training. Not sure where you guys are getting the 40-45% margin... as that sounds more like IBM or Accenture than Ajilon Consulting. I know for a fact that some of their national contracts hold them at 20% markup and they need to be under 25% to be competitive in the marketplace. As they are a public company, you can look at their financials and see that as well. |

I used to be an Account Manager at Ajilon. You can always negotiate the rate with them. If you get someone willing to really work with you, they will disclose their corporate overhead rate and explain why the pay rate to use is what it is. If you go hourly over a salary, you will get paid at least 10% more. But then you do not get medical, dental, vision, 401K and PDO subsidized. It all balances out. Just depends on what you want in your pocket. Some client rates are 30% and some are as low as 10%.
