Do you work at ALLTEL? How did you find the job? How did you get that first interview?

Any advice for someone trying to get in?

You may want to do some research on the company. Currently, Alltel is the number 5 wireless carrier in the US, however there is a large gap between number 4 and number 5 as well as a large gap bewteen number 1,2,3 and number 4. Furthermore, Alltel is exploring options to try and sell themselves to number 1,2 or 3.

Ask yourself why Alltel, and then do your follow up research to answer that question for yourself honestly and without bias. If you can determine that it is the best culture fit, the best career fit, the easiest or hardest to get into or a myriad of other factors then you are well on your way.

Take a serious and objective look at what you bring to the table. Ask yourself, (and fully answer), what makes you different than any of the other candidates. If you can answer that then simply go to the HR department and apply. Do not, however, stop with HR because everyone else will also go that route. Try to find out who you might be reporting to if you get the job and try to locate that person. How? Be creative. Go to an Alltel store and ask questions. Check the blogs and ask questions. Go to the industry publications and check the archives. Try Hoovers or Manta.

Read industry publications to find out if Alltel is really the company for you. Check out planned future developments. Compare their network with their competition - easy to do, simply go to a retail location for each and get their coverage map.

Basically, if you really want to work for Alltel do not wait for them to come to you. You need to be proactive, especially in the job market.

They called me the next day after the interview to offer me the job, but then I had to wait on the background and drug screen results, which took almost 2 weeks, they just called me yesterday to say everything went good, I wont start for a few more weeks. they seem like a really good company the two guys that interviewed me were really nice, and laid back, good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got hired at alltel, they start you out at almost $12.00 an hour, but the hiring process is almost a month long I was supposed to start yesterday 5-21 but while I was waiting I was offered another job same money but mon-fri, so needless to say I took the mon-fri job I have always worked holidays and weekends my whole life this is going to be nice, I guess if they didnt take so long to background check's and drug test I would be working there.....good luck to everyone, I see they are hiring again in the Toledo area, maybe some other people found better jobs while waiting..

Have fun working at Alltel. As a wireless consultant the quotas change monthly. They are never for the better. They want you to sell more and are paying less. As a full time employee you rarely get 2 days off in a row and they are extending store hours at most locations. Also, if a customer drops thier service (text packs etc.) within 6 months you lose your commision. In my area they seem to hire a much of people in thier early 20's. I was constantly covering for people you called out do to to much partying. It got old real quick!

I used to work for Altel and I would never consider going back there. That being said I also worked for VZW and would never go back there either. The cell industry is cut-throat and is changing for the worst, if you are an employee, as a consumer it is good for us.

I worked in Altel in Shreveport in SHREVEPORT, Louisiana

I worked at alltel two years ago and have kept in touch with people who work with alltel now in Shreveport, LA. The way to get into alltel is to apply on line or find someone to recommend you-they get bonus money and the process can take up to a month because they have to have a full class, do background and drug test. I quit alltel after four days though. It was paying 10.53 weekends were required and it was too basic. I feel asleep in training class so I decided it wasn't the place to be. Plus it was call center environment. There were 15 people in my class and only four are still working there.

TURN TAIL AND RUN AS FAST AS YOUR POSSIBLY CAN. THESE JOBS ARE NOTHING SHORT OF SWEAT SHOPS. THEY MISLEAD YOU REGARDING SALARY, BENEFITS, SUPPORT, AND JOB ENVIRONMENT. EVERYONE IS LOOKING FOR SOMETHING ELSE, BUT ARE CAUGHT BECAUSE AT7T PAYS A "CASH ADVANCE", WHICH LITERALLY TRAPS YOU INTO STAYING WITH THE JOB. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY THEY ARE KEEPING PEOPLE. THE WHOLE THING IS A CON, AND I HAVE NO DOUBT THAT THERE ARE MANY LAWSUITS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED TO STOP THEIR FRAUDULANT AND FALSE INCENTIVES. THESE "SO CALL" PEOPLE ARE CON-ARTISTS OF THE WORST KIND. THEY WEAR SUITS, DRESS PROFESSIONALLY, AND LIE LIE LIE. FIND SOMETHING ELSE OR NOTHING AT ALL. WORKING THERE IS SHEAR TORTURE. TWO PEOPLE HAVE HAD HEART ATTACKS ALREADY AND TWO OTHER HAVE EXTREMELY ELEVATED BLOOD PRESSURE. THERE ARE TEARS ON A REGULAR BASIS. THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST POSSIBLE JOB AND ENVIRONMENT I CAN POSSIBLY IMAGINE.

Alltel is a great place to work. My first two months of 07 I made over 10K as a wireless sales consultant. I just talked to a gal where I used to work and she has made around 45K already this year and it's only september. You get a great hourly wage, plus excellent commission. The benefits are wonderful, and you get many paid days off. If you prove to be a great wireless consultant, then you may possibly get promoted to manager and who knows what from there. All companys have positives and negatives, but I've found that Alltel has much to offer.

I have worked at many call centers and ALLTEL is NOT one of the better ones.I dont know if SHIRLEY in Edwardsville, Illinois, has worked for ALLTEL, but she is not far off in her comments. ALLTEL does not give CONSECUTIVE days off (except to the select few).YOU WILL be working sat and sun in your first year. The performance standards are rather high(each call can last "x" minutes".Pay of $13 per hour might "seem" high but after 6 months you can see that it is the company that "gets the BEST of you" and you feel that you SHOULD be paid $25 per hour given all the "hoops" they ask you to jump thru.I lasted 6 months before quiting ALLTEL and moving to a call center that pays EXACTLY the same $13 per hr., but a MUCH LESS stressful environment AND THREE consecutive days OFF a WEEK!!
In the words of shirley, "RUN FROM ALLTEL!! YOU CAN DO BETTER!!"
