What do you think -- is this company going to survive and thrive? Are they looking to expand their staff, or do you think layoffs are inevitable? How does AMF Bowling stack up against the competition? |

I have been working tire-less-ly for AMF for the last 6 years (off & on) of my life. It actually was my first real job. In these six years, I have worked everywhere but the mechanics area. I have been told that I have a great work ethic and am an outstanding worker. In fact, I became Shift Leader (a glorified pee-on, leader of a specified department i.e.: Food and Beverage or Control Counter), and apparently this is where my problems began. The general manager is a pompus, do-for-himself, kind of guy. He has effectively turned each department into a joke and fails to blame the center's misfortune on his lack of problem-solving, damage control, and loss prevention. Instead, all of the employees are either "dumb", "lazy", or "looks like a b*****." I was recently denied a promotion to Assistant Manager or General Manager of another center because I "would not back up the manager and didn't have the companies best interest in mind." This is the same person who made it nearly impossible to make the schedule, perform loss prevention, chaotic inventory schedules, and effectively perform the duties of manager on duty on a day-to-day basis. He also told me that "work isn't the only thing", relevant to moving up in the company. I wasn't aware that kissing-butt was a prerequisit to moving upwards in a company? I thought it was hard-work and dedication would keep you in this company. The general manager touts that I think the world is out to get me. Indeed so, AMF, is out to get me. He once told me that the company can replace any of us without thinking twice. Sure, the pay scale isn't awesome but the job is fulfilling and rewarding. Luckily, or not, I am still working for this company. Hopefully, this redundency of poor management will subside into a prospering place to work. As AMF is a great place to work... it is the people who AMF makes management is another story. |

Are you going to take that? Doesn't he know about people from Waco? Tell him you are crazy and you will eat his brains. That's always a motivator, really! Throw about 3 or 4 bowling balls at his ankles from behind, then act like you are eating his hair if he's got any when you break his ankle. He will be replaced. Managers are always expendible and employees never leave. Maybe you will get your opporunity yet. Think about it dude. |
