I wonder why this company has so many openings at one time? Did the boss go ballistic and fire everyone in site? Did employees quit en masse? I would investigate this company carefully.

I don't know in this particular instance but usually when this happens a company is planning the opening of a new store.

Charlie, I am qualified for the positions posted and live within a short walk of one unit and can't get the sniff of an interview. I don't know why they keep posting this position but never hire anyone.

Could be age? You don't write like the average 19 year old and perhaps they are looking for younger workers to match the crowd on week ends? Just a guess.

Such is legal and common. It is acceptable to select workers who match the customers in an entertainment business. As example, you'd not want to hire a 50 year old straight woman as a bartender in a mens' gay bar as example. Likewise, she'd probably not fit at a bowling alley packed with teens every weekend.

My advice is to show up in person (appearing as a customer who wants to see the manager on a personal concern about the establishment - which is the truth) and ask point blank for an appointment to discuss the possibility of employment. It won't take him/her more than two minutes to tell you basically to forget it or why they are not hiring or to grant you the interview.

Charlie,

I dont think it's age or stereotyping. I may be overqualified, however.

I did try to visit the unit itself and was handed a leaflet with a VERY long link to apply. (Of course later at home, I found the link to be dead) When I asked if I could speak with a manager, the person became a gatekeeper. Just not worth messing with for a bowling alley manager position, too many similar jobs out there.

So I'm being philosophical about the whole deal. I have in hand two offers to choose from and possibly one more on the way. While I will certainly not die rich from any of these positions, the lights will be on.

My complaint is that AMF should not post jobs they never intend to fill. Why waste each others time?

By the way, being well written is a sign of proper upbringing, I thank my parents.

I think the level of openings has to do with the inept leaders at the District and Regional levels. The post about Larry Ross seals the deal.
